punk mythologies: Dot, dot, dot, goose.
http://hercottonsocks.blogspot.com/2013/03/dot-dot-dot-goose.html
Dot, dot, dot, goose. When I was writing my thesis I found a book by Peter Wogan and David Sutton called Hollywood Blockbusters: The Anthropology of Popular Movies. Really interesting. Like me, they were interested in how media can be a form of myth. The distinction between simple story/entertainment and myth is important to me because it shows their role in creating and mediating collective beliefs. He also answered a question I posed on this blog. When does that ever happen? To dress up or not dress up?

punk mythologies: Sharing
http://hercottonsocks.blogspot.com/2012/10/sharing.html
I spent my morning sending emails and tweets and making tumblr posts and facebooking about that Dorothy Parker article. I think it's understandable to feel weird about it (it also makes me feel more comfortable to explain that it makes me feel weird - there's something in that, like covering my tracks: I know I put soil over my footprints, but I never expected you not to notice so all is ok . you know? Now, the sun is out and I'm off for a jog. Hopefully all weird feelings will be shaken out. The Lévi-St...

punk mythologies: black-o-scope
http://hercottonsocks.blogspot.com/2012/08/black-o-scope.html
I read a cool book recently - Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. He does blackout poetry. I'm a bit sick today so I had a go on the horoscope page of a very classy magazine. It was an interesting way to see how the language of these magazines (like advertisements) tell us what to do. I hate. Try it yourself if you like, steal it - he doesn't mind. Here's what I came up with:. And the whole page in all its glory:. Being creative in new ways is fun. Ciao for now freaks,. View my complete profile. Jane e...

Kenney Blog: November 2010
http://kenneyblogg.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Can't leave the room. I drove around in my tiny blue girly car today, posting and shopping and hurrying home to introduce mum to Scott Pilgrim. My thoughts are on Tuneil, Justin and Glen and the mountains of reports they are currently swamped by. Along with Sean who seams to be able to express just how equally stressed out students are at this time of year as well. Fruit of the Moment: Not having children. Monday, November 29, 2010. Now I feel a little ashamed. I found 18 jobs...

punk mythologies: be a martian. be a freak.
http://hercottonsocks.blogspot.com/2012/08/be-martian-be-freak.html
Be a martian. be a freak. Let me tell you of a good thing. This article about Ray Bradbury in the NY Times. Is a good thing. Here are some great quotes from it:. Bradbury didn’t just extrapolate the evolution of gadgetry; he foresaw how it would stunt and deform our psyches.". And this gem to end:. Brilliant. Not a freak? Too bad, you're probably not gonna cut it. I have an article in me that explains it but there are many things in the queue before it will be freed. Is going off. Why? If you can bring y...

punk mythologies: Shaping a story to look like suitcases, cloches and pencils
http://hercottonsocks.blogspot.com/2013/01/shaping-story-to-look-like-suitcases.html
Shaping a story to look like suitcases, cloches and pencils. In 2012 i learned a lot about making words into knots. I have since started to try turning these knots into something recognisable, like a jumper or a crochet rug or a beanie. So far I'm knotting towards a suitcase cabinet like this:. Those of you who saw my flat in North Adelaide might recognise the suitcase theme,. The one above is by the artists duo James Plumb. And a 1920s crochet cloche like this:.
