The 2015 season started in earnest today with us visiting a couple of our bee yards and doing some hive manipulations in advance of this seasons honey flow. The bees are already hard at work bringing in a variety of pollen mostly from maples, alder, and elm trees, There was also a dark forest green pollen that I am unfamiliar with and will have to do some research on. Tom's Honey and Bees. Local Long Island Honey, Honey Bees. Thursday, July 30, 2015. Found a little surprise in the Buckwheat field after it started to go to seed and get a little shorter in height. The farmer and landowner has a soft spot for honey bees, all of nature really, and planted some beautiful sunflowers in with the buckwheat. The bees seem to like it very much and the birds are already checking it out to see if the seeds are ripe yet. Bumblebees like sunflowers too. Posted by Tom's Honey Bees.

Each frame weighs about 3.5 lbs and the boxes are all heavy with honey. The nectar flow is still on so I'll put another honey super back on as soon as I take this one off.
