I credit my older brother with my fascination for photography. I still remember being in elementary school and watching him develop prints in his makeshift basement darkroom. Witnessing the magic of those moments as the image appeared under the haze of a redlight has stayed with me all these years. I worked at the Times for 27 years, photographing, writing and photo editing feature sections. I left the paper in 2007 and resumed my career as a freelance photographer and writer. Welcome to my website. I have been chronicling and documenting the world around me since the early 70’s when I first roamed the beach at Coney Island with my mentor Harry Lepow. Soon after, I began freelancing for the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Los Angeles Times. I spent almost 30 years as a staff photographer at The LA Times and recently began freelancing again. The life of a photographer is a ticket to the best Sociology class ever created. I hope I never graduate.
