So You’ve Got Writer’s Block | The Dialogue Architect
https://tonyfolden.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/so-youve-got-writers-block
Beginner’s Television Screenwriting Workshop. So You’ve Got Writer’s Block. May 25, 2015. I will, on occasion, get what is referred to as Writer’s Block. I don’t let it take hold for very long. I can’t, my livelihood depends on it, but it happens from time to time. Let me give you an example of the latest time I felt clogged. It happened recently when I was attempting a rewrite of my very first feature film screenplay. From → The Entertainment Industry. As usual, your posts are short, to the point, and a...
“On the Nose” vs Subtext | The Dialogue Architect
https://tonyfolden.wordpress.com/2015/04/20/on-the-nose-vs-subtext
Beginner’s Television Screenwriting Workshop. 8220;On the Nose” vs Subtext. April 20, 2015. On the nose dialogue is when a character says exactly what they are thinking. The same goes for action. If a character’s actions are reflective of exactly what the character is thinking, that’s on the nose. Seth Rogen is famous for this. In many scenes you will find him laughing, jumping up and down, and exclaiming, I’m having so much fun! Not only is it redundant, it’s boring. In real life, most people do not act...

Beginner’s Television Screenwriting Workshop. Advice To Make You A Better Scriptwriter. May 15, 2014. This will make it a bit long winded, but it will help you wrangle in the idea. Once you’ve gotten all the elements, you can then go about fine-tuning it to trim it down. From → The Entertainment Industry. I think the most important thing to remember is not to do all the preliminary work: outlines, character profiles, research, etc. etc., and never get around to writing the story. At some poin...You are a...
The Reverse Outline | The Dialogue Architect
https://tonyfolden.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/the-reverse-outline
Beginner’s Television Screenwriting Workshop. December 1, 2014. A few months back I touched on something called the reverse outline. What the hell is a reverse outline? A reverse outline is when you go back through your completed story, after you’ve finished your rewrites, scene by scene to make sure that you have all the elements needed. What are the elements needed? So some of you may be asking, Well, what’s a scene? P] with a distinct desire against. C] a powerful antagonist. S] with a turning point.
You’ve completed your first draft, now what? | The Dialogue Architect
https://tonyfolden.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/youve-completed-your-first-draft-now-what
Beginner’s Television Screenwriting Workshop. You’ve completed your first draft, now what? May 18, 2015. You’ve been working on your story of a couple of months (okay, maybe longer… a lot longer) and you’ve finally finished it. Now it’s time to submit it to producers, agents, and managers, right? So I can submit it to competitions, right? If it’s a television show, does it have the proper act structure. Once you fixed all of those errors and filled all of these missing pieces, the next step is to make su...

Social Media Tip #1: making a video for YouTube. This entry was posted on September 15, 2012, in Planning. What makes this video far more successful than many others? I’ve already shown it to a group of friends and family, just because it’s cute and gets a laugh. I have no interest in the car, whatsoever. Now, watch this video:. It’s meant to be funny, but I didn’t crack a smile and I probably won’t bother sharing it with anyone (other than you). Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). You are c...

Glasgow or bust! On our way at last | Trish Anders
https://trishanders.wordpress.com/2015/04/29/glasgow-or-bust-on-our-way-at-last
On our way at last. We left Sydney at the end of a 3-day period of solid rain, winds, and widespread flooding. Not the best time to drive to the airport – traffic around the international terminal is horrendous on a normal day. After a massive storm front? Well, you can imagine the chaos. We walked into our room...

Tony Folden
Tony has an unnatural adulation for 80s sitcoms. In those days, writers had to be inventive. It was a high-wire balancing act on the FCC tightrope. They had to create dialogue clean enough for the kids, but with just the right amount of innuendo for the adults. Tony strives to revive that style of humor, where they adults had to read between the lines and the kids were clueless.

The three types of arcs I will cover in this blog will be comedy, tragedy, and superhero. I use the genre comedy in the same sense of Shakespeare’s comedy, meaning anything other than tragedy. Each of these genres has specific character arcs for the hero. Initially your hero begins in his ordinary world. Then comes the.

This is my journey with Jesus, so I know Him before I get to Heaven. A few of my last posts concerned a “Verse Challenge” my friend Aaron has entitled Craving Christ, and another concerned finding a word and trying to focus on that word throughout 2014. I wanted to give everyone some updates of my own as I pursue these challenges this year. What I’ve found, and this is really what I want to convey, is that as I focus on Patience and trying to. I look at Paul, and I see that he had to learn patience. ...
