Monday, 27 September 2010. Such messiness is almost inevitable when you cast Will Ferrell with his own unique brand of humour. Ferrell here is at his best since Stranger Than Fiction (2006). And his funniest since Anchorman (2004). Saturday, 26 February 2011. I approached True Grit. With a certain amount of eager anticipation - it's the Coen brothers doing a Western, it's Jeff Bridges, it's Matt Damon. And for once a film turned out to be pretty much what you'd expect - and that's pretty darn good. Of course, there are some for whom the very idea of a new version of True Grit. Thursday, 10 January 2013. Anna Kendrick has won much acclaim (including an Oscar nomination) for supporting roles in very good films such as Up in the Air, 50/50. And End of Watch. Saturday, 28 May 2011. As an actor, Thomas McCarthy is one of those faces that keeps cropping up but you can never put a name to. However, as a writer-director, his previous two films ( The Station Agent. Have been underseen slices of brilliance. He has a gift for crafting compelling stories out of very real but unlikely relationships and human contact.
