shoe & i: Can it
http://betweenshoeandi.blogspot.com/2011/07/can-it.html
Saturday, July 30, 2011. I'm somehow turning into a housewife. That's right. We canned. After eight hours of work, four trips to the store, and numerous excruciating burns, we had zesty salsa, sweet corn relish, and my personal favorite, strawberry jam. In case you're feeling like you too need a little housewife time in your life, here's our foolproof recipe for a little bit of canned sweetness that will last right through the next three seasons, unlike your new Chanel sandals. 1/4 cup of lemon juice.

shoe & i: A Craving for Carven
http://betweenshoeandi.blogspot.com/2011/05/craving-for-carven.html
Thursday, May 19, 2011. A Craving for Carven. I have a craving rivaling that of a pregnant woman in need of pickles. I've got one thing on my mind and I can't seem to shake it. My new obsession is simple, elegant, and cute as a button: the divinely crafted Carven. Apparently this wonderbrand has been kicking around since 1945, but I only discovered its awesomeness this Spring when it was re-launched at Paris fashion week. Founded by Madame Carven Mallet. A complete amateur in. Photos via Style.com. I'm a...

Friday, June 24, 2011. Crushing on Ohbijou for WORN Fashion Journal. Casey and Jenny Mesija, the sisters behind Toronto’s haunting orchestral pop band Ohbijou. Seem to have a lot in common. When they agreed to talk clothes with WORN, I assumed that, along with genes and music, they’d have coinciding views on style. What is it they say about making assumptions? Do you two ever share your clothes, now or in the past? Was a hand-me-down system ever put into place? What was your most memorable show and what...

Saturday, February 26, 2011. We Lived Beneath the Waves In Our Yellow Submarine. Okay, so if you haven't caught on yet, I'm one of those tea/cat/vegan-baking loving lesbians. I have a specific area in my one-room apartment devoted only to tea and accessories (tea pots, flavored honey, etc.) and it is getting so full I may have to sacrifice my bed to create more tea-space. You get it. The girl loves her some tea. Moving on. IT'S A TEA SUBMARINE! I must have one. What's the quickest approaching holiday?

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. Month: September, 2012. September 13, 2012. In a city of famous buildings, the one I wanted to see didn’t actually exist. Officially, the address of this New York landmark is 245 East 73. Now, going back to New York at the age of 26, I know myself. I may not own a T-shirt that says I’m a Carrie (and not just because HBO doesn’t sell them in men’s sizes! But I can admit I’m a ‘Sex and the City’ obsessive. I drew a map in my notebook, along with the lo...

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. Black and blue and red all over. In general, I keep the inanities of the 21. Century at arm’s length. But even I fell down the rabbit hole when it came to That Dress. You know the one I mean. It must be the first time a dress worn by the mother of the bride made international news. (And I thought you weren’t supposed to upstage your daughter.). The argument went global, so social media experts and viral marketers. March 4, 2015. Fill in your details ...

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. Month: August, 2012. August 26, 2012. As anyone who follows my Tumblr. But I’ve been told that my acknowledgement of grey areas doesn’t fit comfortably with our digital age. Opinions on the internet are as black and white as the pixels you are staring at. For some, it’s not enough that I previously wrote about how blogging may be hurting writers. I should have written blogging is silly and a waste of time! Or, alternatively, yay for blogging! It is a...

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. World Mastercard Fashion Week Day 1: VAWK. Photo: George Pimentel / Getty Images. I keep saying I’ve retired from fashion writing but, like Cher with her unending farewell tours, it never seems to stick. Through WORN. First up was Sunny Fong for VAWK. Sunny and I go way back (and by that I mean I rooted for him when he was on ‘Project Runway Canada’). Also one time I approached him at Starbucks and said I was a fan. His whole face turned ...I couldn’...

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. Month: March, 2014. March 21, 2014. World Mastercard Fashion Week Day 3: Christopher Bates and Brunch. George Pimentel / Getty Images. No, Max, I warned myself. You cannot go straight to the food. Remember society. Mingle. Schmooze. I did a once around, stopping to talk to designers who piqued my interest. I complimented Muhammad Alamgir (for L’Momo. On a gorgeous aquamarine dress and Jon De Porter. I conducted a phone interview with her. Christopher...
