Travis Carlson Photography: Blog: June 2015

http://tornadovortex.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Enjoying a spring afternoon in Edwards, IL. Over the spring months, I ventured out and about near Edwards, IL. To shoot some more wildlife photos with my Canon 5D Mark III and Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.0-5.6 II L. IS telephoto-zoom lens. Several of the birds I photographed I've seen earlier this year during the winter months, but I also was able to capture some new "visitors" including some Baltimore orioles. Is a frequent visitor! A female Baltimore oriole. Posted by Travis Carlson.

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Off WY Rt. 24 northeast of Carlile, WY. On July 22nd, I ventured just northeast of Carlile, WY. To photograph and observe Devils Tower. This monument has been always on my "bucket list" to explore and photograph. It was quite a beautiful morning for some hiking under deep-blue skies at Devils Tower. I spent a few hours photographing and doing some exploring at the monument. Before heading back into South Dakota to check out Mt. Rushmore. Entering the state of Wyoming. Later durin...

Thursday, August 6, 2015. 07/23/15 Mound City, SD Supercell. A supercell moves east. Toward Mound City, SD. I ventured into North Dakota for some storm chasing during my summer vacation. This was my first time I've been in North Dakota and was able to cross another state off my "bucket list". I started my day at a Best Western in Wall, SD. And headed north on SD Rt. 73 toward the North Dakota border. My target for the day was just south of Bismark, ND. Convection. This area featured 5,000J/kg. Farther so...

http://tornadovortex.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. 06/05/14 Onawa, IA Supercell. A supercell with a nice inflow tail moving east/southeast near Onawa, IA. I was on my way home to Peoria, IL. Traveling along I-80. I kept tabs on the weather along my route and noticed. A powerful updraft north of Omaha, NE. In Iowa coming into view. This storm was severe-warned and looking very interesting from a distance. After deciding this was indeed a storm. Of CAPE, 0-6km shear at 40kts. And a moist boundary-layer with dew points near 65°.
