Erin Watson: people we know who died
http://writing.torridly.org/2012/12/04/peoplewhodied.html
People we know who died. What a juxtaposition. And I have to write a poem for someone who died, whom I almost knew, to send to his friends, who asked that I do it, and I don’t even know the right way to tell them I’m so sorry, your hearts must hurt unbearably, I wish I could send you a portion of my own happiness if it could make up for this impossible thing. A phrase I’ve long tried to measure my life against is ” radical empathy. Along these lines. “The new absence is always the same.R...I think in ...

http://writing.torridly.org/2012/08/15/29484360486.html
Here is something that’s spent such a long time inside my head that it feels unreal to be writing about it for public consumption:. I wrote a series of poems. Each poem has one @Horse ebooks tweet in it. I want to print these poems in a little chapbook. I have a Kickstarter project to make this book. You can pledge to this project now. You can begin reading the poems now, too. (If you like reading poems on your Tumblr dashboard, follow No Experiences. Mdash;August 15, 2012.

Erin Watson: in our hearts there's a spark
http://writing.torridly.org/2013/07/06/mentoring.html
In our hearts there's a spark. I’m fortunate to know Diana Kimball. Who started a distributed mentoring movement. When I saw Diana present this great talk. It gave me the motivation to join up. It’s because of people I know that I’m the person I’ve become. Here are some things I am proud to do. If these spark something in you, drop me a line. Writing poems and convening a writers’ critique group. In general, I am constantly working to make writing a fulfilling side hustle. For my first chapbook. I’...

Erin Watson: favorite words: a twine poem
http://writing.torridly.org/2013/09/23/favorite-words.html
Favorite words: a twine poem. Over the summer, I made a poem with forking paths. You can read it over here. I made this in Twine. A piece of free software for making interactive stories. I’d been aware of Twine for a little while this piece by Porpentine. Got me excited about it but it only recently occurred to me to try it for a poem. The poem started from my friends’ tweets. This one. One Saturday, set off a conversation about favorite words, and this suggestion. Mdash;September 23, 2013.

Erin Watson: tools, communities, and homes
http://writing.torridly.org/2012/11/25/toolsandcommunities.html
Tools, communities, and homes. Ever since I’ve had a home in Chicago I’ve been itinerant about my homes on the internet. After the umpteenth handwringing conversation about my highfalutin philosophical objections to Tumblr as a platform, the advanced internet man who lives with me. Took it upon himself to create this blog that hosts itself on a computer that I own. So that’s good to have. Some tools have been helpful: having a pen that I love. An inexhaustible supply of leftover purple notebooks from XOXO.

Go bike camping – Tiny Fix Bike Gang
http://tinyfixbikegang.com/go-bike-camping
Tiny Fix Bike Gang. July 29, 2013. A few Tiny Fixers and other Rad Bike Chicks went on a nice little bike camping trip last weekend. It was super fun! We wanted to share the wisdom we gained from our adventure, so here goes:. Have the right bike. It can be a single speed or geared bike or even a fixie, but generally we’d recommend something with geometry good for long distances and that can accommodate a rack and panniers. Know how to set up your tent. Bungee cords: a touring biker’s best friend. The nic...

Erin Watson: nonprofits, startups, and the middle place
http://writing.torridly.org/2013/06/10/middleplace.html
Nonprofits, startups, and the middle place. Because I also live so much online, and because I am marrying a person. Who works in technology, we often wind up talking about where our fields intersect. There’s been a recent trend of articles examining the strand of selfishness that runs through Silicon Valley, which has brought those conversations to a peak of intensity. There was that New Yorker piece. To which I reacted strongly on Tumblr. Making cool features your customers would love, for one? The medi...

Erin Watson: noticed tonight
http://writing.torridly.org/2012/06/24/25828290039.html
It is important to know one’s limits, and sometimes those limits for an evening are: minor bike repair, nail-painting, drinking one beer, listening to records, and not talking to anyone. Which is not to say that I don’t love to talk to some people sometimes, but just that I am limited, in ways that I think I’ve only recently begun to name correctly without apologizing for them or trying to change them.).
