MOST: NZ has the most southern growing palm tree
http://mostnewzealand.com/southern-palm.html
NZ has the most southern growing palm tree. Found as far south as the Chatham Islands, the nīkau is New Zealand’s only endemic palm. The nīkau grows up to 15 metres tall and fruits from February to November. The fruit is a favourite of the kākā (a native parrot), who also help pollinate the flowers with its brush tongue. Māori ate the bases of the inner leaves and the young flower clusters. The old fibrous leaves were woven into baskets and floor mats.

Riverside Matakana
http://riversidematakana.co.nz/activities.php
Ldquo; We stayed at Riverside for 3 nights in January with our baby daughter. We loved the place. The accommodation was excellent and the friendly staff were so helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable. We left so relaxed and only wished we could have stayed longer. For foodies and wine connoisseurs, Matakana has much to offer. In the town there’s a great local wine bar, The Vintry. You can kick back for a superb Pizza at The Rusty Pelican. Or enjoy a more sophisticated meal at Matakana Market Kitchen.
