The Tower Perilous: March 2012
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 31, 2012. As I related in a previous post, I got the cover art for my first book, SmorgaSword. That opened the floodgates of things to do: I plugged the art into the book, generated a mobi file via Kindlegen, put that on my Kindle, and redid the mobi over and over again as I read through the ebook. I also did preparatory work on Amazon for my author's account, and I still need to get the ebook vetted on the Kindle Fire. Saturday, March 10, 2012. The contrast reminded me of the Hardy Boys ...

The Tower Perilous: October 2012
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 14, 2012. I recently read all four books in the fantasy series the Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini ( Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr,. I enjoyed them all, and came away with some conclusions and observations. Is to present a different kind of magical training. But I still enjoyed the series, and got something out of them. And the dragons were cool. :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. A Signet Forever Workshop. Right now I've just got one on Amazon,.

The Tower Perilous: May 2012
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 8, 2012. History is critical for depth in a good epic fantasy novel (the Lord of the Rings. Being an excellent example), but sitting down to write a whole history like the Silmarillion. Is daunting. :). But, I've learned I don't have to do that. I can take a character or a place, say the cliff city of Underrim, and write a short narrative history of it. That's a lot easier than trying to write the history of a whole world: the back story of a city or a person is a much smaller task. My profe...

The Tower Perilous: The Foundation: Jesus Christ
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012/07/foundation-jesus-christ.html
Sunday, July 8, 2012. The Foundation: Jesus Christ. My dad has released his latest book: The Foundation: Jesus Christ (What Every Christian Should Know). Both as a Kindle ebook. And as a paperback. This is volume two in his Friends of the Living God. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble." (I Cor. 3:11-12). In the book of Hebrews we find the instructions:. My profession is s...

The Tower Perilous: June 2012
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 6, 2012. I remember picking up a "Choose your own Adventure" book as a kid, and really liking it. I got to choose where the adventure went. :). I've been thinking of how I might write a story like that. It's technically easy to do links in an ebook, but how do you write a story where the reader has interesting choices to make? The story I have in mind is tentatively called The Adventure Company and the Book of Mirrors. And it features young people on a nature trip with their parents. ...

The Tower Perilous: Evangelism
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012/07/evangelism.html
Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Evangelism is something I've been thinking about lately, and then discussions on the subject popped up on a blog I follow, The Pen and Parchment. Which didn't dampen my enthusiasm. :). Is all about this topic.). Is an excellent example. So, while I've tried to avoid what would be called evangelizing in my fiction, the whole point of my writing all along has been to express good information through stories (however well I've achieved that). Despite my best efforts, I'm evidentl...

The Tower Perilous: July 2012
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 28, 2012. I'm not sure there's really a difference between the two words, "author" and "writer", but they seem to convey something I've been thinking lately. I want to be an author; I'm not sure I want to be a writer. That is, there are a certain number of works I want to write and finish, but there are other kinds of projects I want to do (such as building computer games). I'm not sure writing is my dream day job; I'm not sure I want to "live by the pen". Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Anyhow, I...

The Tower Perilous: The Epic Quantity
http://thetowerperilous.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-epic-quantity.html
Saturday, August 11, 2012. What is "epic", anyway? The word is overused in modern culture, and it's losing its meaning. A general definition might be "world-changing", or simply "great, majestic". Here's where it gets interesting. What is "world-changing"? They imply that something matters, that it has import, that it made a difference. When we look at the universe as a whole, though, what can people do to make a difference? The universe will die, no matter what we do. Can we change that? Available Now o...
