Alison In Writerland: My November First Paragraph Project
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2014/11/my-november-first-paragraph-project.html
Sunday, 9 November 2014. My November First Paragraph Project. It's November again (how did that happen? The time of year when many brave writers turn their attention to NaNoWriMo. In other news, I've had a few more writing successes. That story that was longlisted in the Doris Gooderson competition was sent out into the world again to take its chances, and ended up published in Issue One of Kishboo, an exciting new online magazine. You can read my story here. And finally, I've been a runner-up in WriteIn...

Alison In Writerland: A Little Encouragement Goes A Long Way
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-little-encouragement-goes-long-way.html
Monday, 16 March 2015. A Little Encouragement Goes A Long Way. I'm not quite sure how it's happened, but almost a quarter of 2015 has passed. It's been a frustrating few months, without a single publication. I haven't even managed a WriteInvite shortlisting, even though I've been entering every week. I've definitely fallen out of favour there. On the positive side, I've actually been writing more than ever. Thanks to writing sessions with my writing buddy Jo. Included in issue 2 of Firewords Quarterly.

Alison In Writerland: May 2014
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 May 2014. I can think of no better place to restart a blog than with something I've been published in. I've been published before, in magazines, and competition anthologies. Nothing else, though, has made me quite as proud as being part of this new anthology of woman writers My Baby Shot Me Down. In other news, I'm wondering whether it's worth entering The Bridport Prize. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 160; . 160; . 160; . 160; . 160; . View my complete profile.

Alison In Writerland: February 2015
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, 2 February 2015. Still Just Getting On With It. Ironically, I've written more this month than I've done for a long, long time, thanks mostly to almost daily sessions with my writing buddy. I've got a handful of brand new stories in first draft form. I'm quite excited about a couple of them. I'm sure I'm a better writer now than I was this time last year. All I need is a bit of encouragement. Please? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 160; . 160; . 160; . View my complete profile.

The True Color of The Sky By Chrysler Szarlan | Short Story Sunday
https://shortstorysunday.com/2014/11/02/the-true-color-of-the-sky-chrysler-szarlan
The True Color of The Sky By Chrysler Szarlan. November 2, 2014. November 22, 2014. Short Story Sunday Admin. My father had left us two months before. There was no fighting that I can remember, only one evening when I arrived home from a play rehearsal (Jesus Christ Superstar) and the two tan Samsonite suitcases were squatting by the door, waiting. Are we going somewhere? I was only a member of the crowd, but still. What are you laughing at? My mother was ready to share the joke. Too ready, as she al...

Alison In Writerland: September 2014
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, 19 September 2014. Finally, my name in Mslexia, plus a WriteInvite comeback. There's something very exciting about opening your favourite writing magazine, Mslexia, and seeing an advert for a book which includes your writing on the inside of the front cover. Sometimes I feel like an actual proper writer. For about 30 seconds. Then the feeling passes. That's all the writing news I have, for now. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 160; . 160; . 160; . 160; . Alison In Writerland: April 2013
http://alisoninwriterland.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 22 April 2013. Less is more, sometimes. When I was in the top juniors, or Year 6, as it's known nowadays, I had a teacher who didn't like me. Well, he didn't like my mum, who taught at the same school, and had recently been promoted to deputy head. He didn't take kindly to a woman being in a senior position to him. But that's another story, and one I might write one day. Last week, I was proud to be part of Flash Flood. And A Bite Of The Apple. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Writer with a passion fo...

Don’t bite! | Homework, Guilt and Costa Coffee
https://teenagetrials.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/dont-bite
Homework, Guilt and Costa Coffee. Teenagers from the frontline and other failings. The Art of the Matter. February 1, 2012. Conversations with Teen 2 are interspersed with me muttering Finger. Which doesn’t sound too bad until I add that a few years ago it was Tongue. The truth seldom fails to disappoint and Finger is to remind him to stop biting his nails, whereas Tongue meant stop licking your nose. Me: Just choose one finger to save. Teen 2: This one. No thumb. No that’s too tempting. And so we contin...
