8220;Man cannot dis…. 8220;Man cannot discover new oceans if he does not have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” — André Gide. Gide himself must have truly followed his own advice being that he was a French novelist who was nominated and awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947. Interestingly enough, Gide’s work was very Transcendentalist; his writing mainly focused on empowerment (self-reliance) and the investigation of freedom (non-conformity). Intuition. One of the many tenets of Transcendentalism. Depicted here, in this piece of artwork, is a fantastic representation of how we do not need God to know right from wrong, good from evil, etc. This picture expresses that there is a line between intuition, just simply knowing on your own, and being told what is right and what is wrong.
