Whirling Dervish in Istanbul. May 18, 2015. A few days ago, I got the opportunity to see a Semâ at the Galata Mevlevihanesi Müzesi in Istanbul. The museum was closed when I was here 5 years ago so I was excited to finally get to see it. The ceremony is made up of seven parts. The first 2 parts are eulogies followed by a ney taxsim. The dervishes then greet one another. The fifth part is when the whirling begins. There are 4 salutes. The final parts include a reading from the Quran and ends with a prayer.

A Village of Berber Women, a Field and Me. May 13, 2015. May 13, 2015. Once satisfied with the answer she promptly adopted me and motioned for me to come and sit with her. Several of the women were busy preparing tea and placing large pots of food onto a propane burner. Then the singing and clapping began! Once everything was cleaned up, the singing started again. The older woman whom I was sitting with got up and started dancing, she teased me with her moves as if to say get up and dance with me!
