Light | Traveling Light

A Taste of Holiday at Home. I love the way the light of the sun plays off the Hudson, plays on my shoulders, saturates those who play on its shores. The smell of the river, the sound of bikes whizzing by, the sight of something open, something free. Potential exists in the gaze forward across the open space, at the space between the here and the there. Chaos is restrained unnoticed, insignificant behind me. Response to “Light”. Creation Interrupted | Traveling Light
https://travelinglightjs.wordpress.com/2011/05/30/creation-interrupted
As I walked today along the border of the LES, Soho, and Chinatown, in that gritty area where neighborhoods converge and diverge, I realized how inspired I am creatively by Manhattan. I think it’s akin to the resilience of a cactus when something has to overcome harsh conditions to flourish, it will use what little resource it has to grow strong, bright, and feisty. Either way, that flash of color stands as an altar to me, a marker of a place where the process of creation managed to survive. Blog at Word...

A Taste of Holiday at Home | Traveling Light
https://travelinglightjs.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/nyc-international-food
A Taste of Holiday at Home. I took a cooking class in Bali when I was there in September. I love to cook, I love food, and I loved Bali. It like seemed a good way to spend three hours. As it turns out, I also really love Balinese food. The prominent use of lime and ginger coupled with the sweetness of palm sugar, the subtle tanginess of tamarind, and just enough heat to make you sweat hit all my foodie sweet spots. The cooking class was one of the highlights of my trip. Istanbul via Queens: lamb adana, h...
Refuge | Traveling Light
https://travelinglightjs.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/refuge
Barcelona and Madrid: What to Read? Madrid, for me, was the epitome of Spain. I was enchanted by the city’s bustle, its grand boulevards, its unbelievable concentration of art, and its Metro. (Oh, the irony of being charmed by public transportation, considering all the tortuous hours I’ve spent locked in its delayed-by-signal-problem claws in the decade since.). El Parque del Buen Retiro, Madrid’s equivalent of Central Park. Directly translated, it means the park of good retreat, or refuge. You are comme...

It's All About Ty and Ashlee: All About Ashlee
http://itsallaboutty.blogspot.com/p/all-about-ashlee.html
65279;Ashlee is our 6-year-old first-grade "princess." She loves to torment her brother, taking away his toys and his favorite blankey. She loves Tyler's attention, and considers him to be the coolest person in the world {much to his dismay}. She is a girly girl and prefers dresses and hair bows over jeans and sweatsuits. She likes painting her nails, wearing all of her bracelets and necklaces and pushing, er dragging, her babies around the house. Read all of Ashlee's posts here. Each Day Something New.
It's All About Ty and Ashlee: All About Parties
http://itsallaboutty.blogspot.com/p/all-about-parties.html
I love planning parties. I start planning the kids' birthday parties months in advance. As a child, my parents always made sure we had fabulous parties; I remember each so fondly, and I want my kids (and their friends) to do the same {it helps that we now have Pinterest. To feed party planning addictions}. Take a look at the parties I have planned just click the picture for more info:. Sadly, Tyler didn't have a party this year. Let's just say we're saving up for his 10th! Toy Story and Gymnastics.
It's All About Ty and Ashlee: KampOut!
http://itsallaboutty.blogspot.com/2015/06/kampout.html
Friday, June 26, 2015. Tyler spent the last week at Kanakuk's KampOut! And he loved it. So much so that he asked to go back next year before we had even left the first day. A spin-off of the reknowned Kanakuk Kamp near Branson, KampOut! Is a high energy, non-stop excitement traveling Christian day camp. College-aged counselors teach elementary school-aged kids about Jesus while doing amazing things, including rock climbing, ziplining, bouncing in inflatables and more. Posted by Tyler-Ashlee's Mommy.
It's All About Ty and Ashlee: Kite Tails
http://itsallaboutty.blogspot.com/2015/06/kite-tails.html
Friday, June 26, 2015. It's been almost three years since our last Theta vacay. So Nikki decided to get the gang back together. And it was just what we all needed. As moms of mostly 2 kids - one has 3, one has none {yet} and one has one on the way - we needed some time away from the kiddos and husbands. A chance to let loose and relive those college years - and regardless if we drink, dance and laugh until our stomachs hurt. Since we were coming from all over, we kept the first day pretty low key. Bekah ...
It's All About Ty and Ashlee: Very Important Kiddos
http://itsallaboutty.blogspot.com/2015/06/very-important-kiddos.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Ashlee and friends had a second summer field trip. Monday that was a bit unforgettable for some . A behind the scenes tour of Kauffman Stadium. Home of the beloved Royals. Roger (Poppy) joined me on this field trip as he was curious about the behind the scene workings as well, plus, after the last field trip, I realized that extra hands were needed for some of these kids! Tyler was beyond sad/mad that he couldn't attend this field trip with us! After walking the outfield arc and...

Paging Dr. Hughes: The Writing Class

Paging Dr. Hughes. Learning, slowly but surely, how incredible it is to be . and become . a doctor. Sunday, October 31, 2010. 8220;Please open your notebooks,” the doctor asked. “You will write for five minutes, never lifting your pen from the paper. I don’t care if you write the same sentence over and over again, but I want you to keep writing.”. The eight of us folded back the covers of our fresh notebooks, gifts from him, poised and ready for our topic. Would anyone like to read theirs aloud? 8220;You...

Paging Dr. Hughes. Learning, slowly but surely, how incredible it is to be . and become . a doctor. Saturday, November 27, 2010. Around his room, scattered paintings and photos were tacked to the wall, telling a piecemeal story of the strong man he once was and who I hoped to discover still existed. His half-eaten lunch rested on the bedside table near him. His aerated bed was silent for the moment. He rolled his head toward me and nodded slightly. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). traveling light in a heavy world - Travel blog by Karen Horst
Traveling light in a heavy world. Sun and surf in Itapua, Brazil. Then Maggie stuck her ipad in the refrigerator to cool it down. What a pair we made!
