Traveling Tufts Hillel

Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Alcalá de Henares, Spain. By Julie Kalt and Alex Freedman. Today, only 12,000 Jews live in Spain, and although their contribution to Spanish history are significant, you can hardly detect a Judaic presence in “la vida diaria” (daily life). Why was 1492 significant? But enough of the history lesson – how has this effected our experience here in Alcalá de Henares? Julie: “I am so excited to see the synagogue! Traveling Tufts Hillel: February 2011

http://www.travelingtuftshillel.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 24, 2011. A Jew in the Churches of Europe. As I travel around Europe, it is almost necessary to visit the main church or churches in every city. While it is something that I do not mind doing since most of the churches are very impressive both on the interior and the exterior with large, opulent stained glass windows, it honestly does make me a little uncomfortable from time to time. Since I am not Christian, do I really fit into Europe? Posted by Lauren Levine. Gabe on the Equator.

Traveling Tufts Hillel: San Jose, Costa Rica

http://www.travelingtuftshillel.blogspot.com/2011/03/san-jose-costa-rica.html

Wednesday, March 2, 2011. San Jose, Costa Rica. Kristen, left, with friends while abroad in Costa Rica. Once I finally got there and pulled my khakis on over my shorts in a side alley, I approached the guard armed with my passport. I sat in the basement until a member of the congregation arrived and gave me the go-ahead, and I was led upstairs to the chapel. I said “buenas” and “hola” to a nice old lady, who corrected me by saying, “hola? Hunny, just use hello! Posted by Lauren Levine.

Tufts Hillel Repairs the World: We and I: Rabbi Jeffrey Summit

Tufts Hillel Repairs the World. Thursday, December 15, 2011. We and I: Rabbi Jeffrey Summit. I want to talk about the words “I” and “We” and I want to begin with a poem by Adreinne Rich called “In Those Years.”. In those years, people will say, we lost track. Of the meaning of we, of you
. We found ourselves
reduced to I. And the whole thing became
silly, ironic, terrible:. We were trying to live a personal life. And, yes, that was the only life
we could bear witness to. Into our personal weather.

Tufts Hillel Repairs the World. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. As the chair of a Hillel sponsored initiative, Read By the River, and an active contributor to Hillel, I have recently been invited to several Repair the World dinners and events. The one that impacted me the most was our dinner on tzedakah with Don Abramson. Don is a former chair of the American Jewish World Service. He engaged us in conversation about tzedakah and philanthropy. One of his campers (Joey) had a difficult summer. The discussion beca...

Tuba's Travel | Because everyone wants to know what I'm doing!

Because everyone wants to know what I'm doing! Trip to the USS Pampanito. May 18, 2014. Yesterday I braved Fisherman’s Wharf to go see the World War II submarine the USS Pampanito. The submarine is tucked away and I would have never found it just by walking around I’m sure. I don’t spend much time down at the wharf because of the tourist but I thought this would be interesting to see. I mean growing up in the middle of Ohio you don’t get to see many ships of any size.
