The Travellers Rest lies alongside the old ‘Fosseway’ Roman road and provides a welcome break for travellers using the A37. It is located 8 miles south of Shepton Mallet in the hamlet of Stone. Originally a coaching inn, the Travellers Rest is now a traditional country pub with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

We offer a selection of traditional pub meals such as homemade shepherd’s pie, steak and kidney pudding, faggots, scampi, lasagne, curry, to name but a few or a lighter menu of baguettes and jacket potatoes. During the warmer weather, we offer cream teas, which include a good sized, homemade scone, clotted cream, strawberry jam and a pot of tea or coffee. A traditional roast dinner is served on Sundays between 12noon and 3pm. Thereafter the normal menu is available until 9pm.

Our two twin bedded rooms are in the converted hayloft above the old stables, which were in use at a time when the only transport along the ‘Fosseway’ was horse-drawn. The rooms are accessed through a separate entrance and staircase, with both rooms having exposed beams, a small skylight window, 2 comfortable, single beds and an en-suite shower together with a TV/DVD, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. A freshly cooked breakfast is served in the restaurant from 7.30 am by arrangement.
