Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Far be it for me to do the expected. The expected of course was the plan to work in China starting last September. For a variety of reasons that didn't happen. In late July of last year I started applying for jobs, I even got some. The problem was most of the teaching jobs I found came with their own problems. One community was too violent, another paid less than a living wage. Mom: There is a job posting in you should apply. Me: where the f@ck is? Christmas came and went.

Thursday, 16 January 2014. Today I had the privilege of MCing an assembly in which one of my students shaved her head to raise money for her Aunt's cancer treatments. The entire school and part of the community showed up to support her. I was unprepared for the power of the moment. I urged the crowd to their feet and I was humbled by the outpouring of love and pride that the whole school sent to the brave girl. Friday, 27 June 2014. I don't know why it is that I focus on the negative so much, sometimes I think it is human nature.one really negative comment and a whole day is ruined. Either way, this academic year had a lot of stumbling blocks and moments of frustration, rage, and incredible sadness. Still, as I think about this year and reflect on the all of the things that happened I'm struck by how much beauty, inspiration, and change happened. I've become calmer and more assertive.with my students :).
