Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour
Exploring Miyajima | travellingwiththreads
https://travellingwiththreads.wordpress.com/2014/11/03/exploring-miyajima
Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour. Todays adventure was a trip to the island of Miyajima, travelling by high speed ferry. As we walked along the road to the ferry dock, we discovered a line of ‘cherry trees’ that turn out to be plastic and look as if they light up! When we arrived at Miyajima, the key feature is the Tori gate that sits in the water and, at high tide, it looks as if it floats. Unfortunately, we were there at low tide. I left the group after the shrine because I wanted to go to th...
Exploring Nara | travellingwiththreads
https://travellingwiththreads.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/exploring-nara
Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour. We had half a day today to explore Nara so we set off at 9.00 to walk to the Kasuga Taisha shrine and we planned to take the back streets to get there. The first thing we cam across was a vegetable store with beautiful fruit and veg including these persimmons. We continued walking towards the shrine and came across a lovely channel in the street. There were also lots of other delightful children so we didn’t take any photos of the shrine! We walked on to the To...

https://travellingwiththreads.wordpress.com/2014/11/06/last-day-in-japan-visiting-osaka
Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour. Last day in Japan visiting Osaka. After an early start this morning, I made it to my hotel about 10.00 am and left my luggage behind and obtained a map to be able to get around. I decided to walk to Osaka Castle it didn’t look too far away! He has the block of inner fibre and then he lays the matting over it before moving it to the machine that you can see for applying the tapes that are on reels. Then I saw this bike storage which I thought was great. There wa...
Last day in Hiroshima | travellingwiththreads
https://travellingwiththreads.wordpress.com/2014/11/05/last-day-in-hiroshima
Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour. Last day in Hiroshima. I have written a blog about the tour of the Toho bead factory and will publish it when I have checked it is ok to do so. This is about the rest of the day. Toho Beads are a Japanese company with a global market and they make 10,000 different types of beads/colours so we were privileged to be able to take a tour around the factory and also look at their museums of glass and beads as well as cooking our own lunch. They have a theme park at ...
Visiting Iga City | travellingwiththreads
https://travellingwiththreads.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/visiting-iga-city
Travelling the Silk Road on a textile tour. We left Kyoto today for the second part of the tour. First stop was Iga City which is the home of kumihimo braiding and home to the Ninjas. Our first stop was the museum of the Ueno Tenjin festival held on 24th October every year. There are 9 floats and 3 are shown at any one time in the museum. This is the ‘Oh shit’ moment and then the finished article! I spent a long time watching him braid because it is so beautiful and his braiding is so even I guess he has...

Purple Donsu: October 2014
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 October 2014. Scuplture at Gloucester Cathedral. A more than lifesize bull in the Cathedral Close. My favourite piece. This was inside the cathedral in a side aisle. Made of laminated wood. This was astonishing as it is a lion by Bugatti outside in the Close. Astonishing because I would have thought it was far too valuable to put where children could climb on it. This is 'Reaching for the Sky'. Tuesday, 28 October 2014. I have dyed the second knitted blank which was done differently. I pai...

Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Convergence 2016 is at Milwaukee! I have been there and I will go again no problem. The reason? Apart from two or three rooms full of Georgia OKeefe, there are Braques, Picassos, Kandinskys (lots), a Rembrandt or two and an impressive photographic collection. Never mind what the classes are! Purple Donsu: Partying
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2015/08/partying.html
Sunday, 2 August 2015. This is Anne and her husband, Derek, suitably dressed for an afternoon on the river. And this is my grand-daughter, Charlotte, trying and succeeding in looking like a Hollywood starlet. The young man, Shaun, is not doing too badly either. The fur, in case you were worrying, is definitely faux. So textiles have taken a back seat lately. The house purchase is progressing and we hope to move in soon. 3 August 2015 at 18:05. What a wonderful way to celebrate! A day spent on photography.
Purple Donsu: Madiera Day 1
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2015/07/madiera-day-1.html
Saturday, 18 July 2015. After a traumatic week in which all my worldly goods went into storage, three of us are in Madiera for a few days. I have always wanted to visit Reid's Palace Hotel and it is exceeding expectations. The three of us are my daughter, Ruth, my grand-daughters, Charlotte and myself. This is us having scrambled eggs and smoked salmon plus Buck's Fizz for breakfast at Gatwick. Charlotte starting as she means to go on. I had tea! 19 July 2015 at 07:33. Purple Donsu: Living with Ruth
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2015/07/living-with-ruth.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. There is nothing wrong with living with Ruth except that I do not have my belongings with me. Rather more important, I do not know what I do have. Occasionally I am pleasantly surprised to find that I did bring something sensible. Yesterday I joined a group of weavers, lace makers etc and had a very sociable afternoon. I wound a new warp. I have at long. Last finished the piece of Biederwand which was on the 12 shaft loom. This is happening next weekend. Removal, well partial removal.
Purple Donsu: Madiera Day 2
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2015/07/madiera-day-2.html
Monday, 20 July 2015. This was dominated by Reid's summer party for which we all had to turn up in white - all quite something. Above are the dancers. The food was fantastic. I never got past the starters! And there was a band, rather standard and eight dancers - fantastically good and all teenagers. And a lot of champagne. You would not have thought the gardeners could find enough flat space for a glorious parterre! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Removal, well partial removal. An Enraged Old Lady.

Purple Donsu: August 2015
http://purpledonsu.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, 29 August 2015. The books they printed were the high class ones. A first edition of Clusius. One of the libraries. They had everything there into a foundry for casting type. The cathedral was having an exhibition of early manuscript music - all very beautiful. The cathedral was very large with a huge carved wood pulpit. Rubens house is the right hand bit and that is less than half the house. Wednesday, 26 August 2015. And today, I took the train into London to catch the Eurostar to Brussels and...

travelling with the truscotts
Travelling with the truscotts. Jueves, 11 de septiembre de 2014. Does anyone even remember those anymore? I am not a professional photographer but I do a good imitation of one. I love to take pictures and have been doing so for most of my life. I remember my very first camera quite clearly. It was a sad little thing my mom must have pulled out of some attic. The camera had a 'cereal box prize' quality about it and it used cube flashbulbs. Does anyone even remember those anymore? This camera comes with fi...
