There's such a lot of world to see. Thursday, July 2, 2015. The Ship of Knowledge. I'd been to the British Library before, when I had a few hours before my train to Wales; if all you can do is go in and admire the Treasures, it's still worth a stop. But, of course, being able to take a tour behind the scenes is much more interesting. An exhibit related to Magna Carta but not included in the larger display was Cornelia Parker's ' Magna Carta (An Embroidery). Wednesday, June 10, 2015. My main goal in South...

Mjoksiglandi: February 2015

http://www.travelsof1812.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

There's such a lot of world to see. Sunday, February 8, 2015. He’d probably be embarrassed to know it, but one of my favorite memories of Bra. O is of him dancing at his class’ stu. Not dancing formally with one of the fifth-year girls while parents and coworkers and other students looked on; dancing like he meant it to “1-2-3-4” by Feist, from a CD he’d burned specially for the event. See, during my third year Bra. O somehow got roped into being the class teacher (akin to a homeroom teacher) for 5A.

Props to Shawn Reeder. For capturing this amazing beauty. Friday, April 13, 2012. 100 Places to Visit Before You Die? There's such a lot of world to see. Sunday, November 23, 2014. Flashback: A Long Drive. Drive nearly from one coast to the other in five days (and fewer if you can power through more than eight or so hours a day behind the wheel), but I wouldn’t really recommend it. To see everything of interest between southern California and southern Connecticut would take a very long time. I daresay we’d still be driving if we’d been able to stop at every place we saw in a guidebook that caught our interest. Before we...

Mjoksiglandi: March 2015

There's such a lot of world to see. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Birthday Weekend/Pre-St. Patrick's Day New York Jaunt. While I was stuck in Mass, unable to venture far on account of the snow, it seemed like New York City was a thousand miles away. A little over two hours of driving plus just under an hour on the train is much more reasonable- and also dangerous to know; with that in mind, I'll have a harder time staying away. Stephanie's Slovak Sojourn: October 2010

http://stephanieslovakia.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Those who do not remember the past. Are condemned to climb up a terribly steep mountain! About 2 weeks ago the other American teachers and I (sort of) decided to climb up to a lake situated in the High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. This is a very Slovak thing to do as Slovaks love hiking! Oh, here's 18 year-old me at the start of the hike. That's right...

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Sunday, March 27, 2011. It's nearing the end of March and I would feel like a complete failure if I didn't update this blog at least once a month. The truth is there's been a lot going on here in Tisovec and in life in general. I feel bad for not updating. I will attempt to write the top things that have been happening (in ABC order for added fun! Heidi and me in a cave! Is for...

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Wednesday, May 23, 2012. It has been almost a year since I left Slovakia. I had a wonderful, eye-opening experience and learned so much in my year abroad. To this day I still miss my students, fellow teachers, friends, and even my tiny apartment! But, I'm off to new adventures! This summer I will be traveling to Kazan, Russia. A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Monday, January 24, 2011. Hello All (Ahoj Vsetci)! I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up with this blog recently. Truth is, not much is going on here in Tisovec. Over Christmas and New Years I had a wonderful time in Itlay, however! I spent two full weeks in the cities of Rome, Vactican City ( a whole other country, boo ya! Florence, Pisa, Venice and Milan! Meanwhile, back i...

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. I am totally that teacher who gives pop-quizzes. who knew I was so mean? I was recently asked by some students to write an article or feature for the school magazine. I decided to create a high school personality quiz for the students instead! Obviously, the Slovak students are missing something huge. I could no longer allow them to continue on...

This last week we made a visit to the orphanage in Tisovec. We visited about 2 months ago to this orphanage to play games with all of the kids in English. They weren't especially interested in English-language games, but really wanted to show us their talents. So, for this special Christmastime visit we held a talent show!

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Sunday, November 28, 2010. I must admit, I have not been keeping up with this blog as much as I would like (and yet much more than I realistically thought I would) I have just been so busy break dancing and what-not. Me enjoying the town square in Krakow. There was a GIANT head in the square (extra points for Krakow)! But neither of my fears materialized. I managed to learn...

A blog chronicling all of my deep thoughts and astute observations of Slovakia and the Slovak lifestyle during my one year stay. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Sometimes the busses don't come in Slovakia. In comparison to The United States, I thought the the public transportation is wonderful here! All cities, and even small towns like mine, have regular and (sort of ) reliable bus and train routes. You can go virtually anywhere by bus or train and for not much money or time. It turns out the bus was havin...

the TRAVELS of Douglas Rose

Welcome to my travels website. Here you will find photos, information and anecdotes from my travels. In the summer of 2006 I spent 6 weeks in Kenya. I spent most of the time living in a remote village, spending the days building classrooms in a school on a small island just off the mainland. During freetime, at the weekends and end of the trip, I had the chance to go on Safari and climb Mt. Kenya. In February 2011 I was lucky enough to be able to go on a last minute, budget trip to Istanbul, the gateway ...

It takes some time to get to, and in the end you have to pay in order to get the good views of the falls, but it was worth the trouble. The rest of the drive went ok. Travels Of 2 Texans. A Long Time Ago In A Land Far, Far Away…. After the usual conflicts over the centuries, the leadership was taken over during the 13th century by a group of families who turned into a new ruling class. Among them were the Bonhöffers; the ancestors of the German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. And naturally a portrait of Martin Luther hangs in the church. I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? Both now and forevermore.
