Art, food, fun and backpacking in Asia. Laquo; Sukhothai is awesome. Is tourism without harm possible? June 5, 2012. Wrong To enter the ‘village’ there was a ticket booth (! You’ll see nearly every tour agency in Chiang Mai advertising the ‘Long-Neck’ village). I also seriously doubt that the ticket money even goes to the tribe, but rather to the government. The intentions would be more or less the same, as well as the results; people as commercial objects to gawk at, rather than human beings to respect.

Chiang Mai is host to a myriad of cooking schools with courses ranging from 2 hours long to a full day, so that anyone regardless of time or skill level can make a Thai meal. I chose to do a full day course out on a peaceful farm about an hour outside of Chiang Mai. We cooked 5 different dishes! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Art, food, fun and backpacking in Asia. June 13, 2012. Chiang Mai. Bustling, but not too congested with traffic. Great clubbing and bar scene, but never too noisy at night. Tons of tourists, but in the quiet side streets or. You often only find Thais chatting at corners or food stalls. I like Chiang Mai. It’s got a laid back vibe, not as overtly commercial as Bangkok, yet easy for Westerners to digest with lots of shops, restaurants and markets that cater to tourists. It was an experience, at least.
