Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012: Jerusalem - Yad Vashem
http://israelodyssey2012.blogspot.com/2012/11/jerusalem-yad-vashem.html
Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Sunday, 25 November 2012. Jerusalem - Yad Vashem. Yad Vashem is the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Jerusalem. Yad Vashem means 'A Memorial and A Name' and comes from the scripture of Isaiah. In this case, it's a memorial and a name for the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust who weren't given the dignity of a Jewish burial. They had to have known what was going on there; why didn't the U.S. help more? It was hard not to tear up as we wrote a letter for Julia a...

Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012: August 2012
http://israelodyssey2012.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Friday, 31 August 2012. While researching places in Israel to volunteer at, I came across Sar-El. It is a branch of the Israel Defense Force (IDF) where volunteers from around the world, from all backgrounds (after a security check), can volunteer to help the IDF. I arrived at the Yiftach base near Elifelet in Northern Israel. Some of the units represented on this base:. This base is mainly for "armor," which means tanks. This was one of them. One of our tasks was...

Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Thursday, 26 July 2012. Kibbutz Outings - The Dead Sea and Ein Gedi Nature Reserve. Our next group outing was to Ein Gedi Nature Reserve and the Dead Sea! We did a really short hike at Ein Gedi; I'd like to go back for a longer hike in the future (maybe not in the summer though). We saw some hyraxes (like a giant guinea pig) and ibexes (related to a goat but they look like African antelope), which is always exciting! These ibexes are settlers of the Negev Desert.

Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012: May 2012
http://israelodyssey2012.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Wednesday, 30 May 2012. I asked Jeremy if we can try it! Like the responsible fiancé he is, he said we don't want to have a child a few months before we're married. I said, “But what if we don’t and we prove it wrong? 8221; and Jeremy said, “Do you really want to disprove a legend like that? 8221; I guess not… We’ll have to come back! Ooooo……creepy….what a coincidence! So, now you have a little taste of the magic. Jeremy and I at the synagogue of The Ari. Also, th...

Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Friday, 26 October 2012. Jerusalem - The Israel Museum. The Israel Museum is so vast and fascinating that we actually went there together one day and then I returned on another day to see the exhibit on Hasidism (fascinating! The Israel Museum houses the Tel Dan stele,. But the inscription is incomplete, so the evidence is debatable.) I was in awe to see such a significant archaeological artifact! Samara and Jeremy's Israel Odyssey 2012. Tuesday, 25 September 2012. Jerusalem - History and Archaeology - Small Wailing Wall, Via Dolorosa, King David's Citadel Museum, Ramparts Walk, Mt. of Olives, and Valley of Jehoshaphat. Wow, there were so many amazing things to see in Jerusalem, it kept us busy for weeks! As you can recall from one of our previous posts, Kibbutz Outings - Jerusalem. There was A LOT of security during the walk of the Via Dolorosa, no doubt due to religious tensions in the Old City.
