Travel with Alice: September 2009

http://travelwithcjalice.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 15, 2009. For a little more depth and feel for various aspects or places in Italy (particularly Venice), I recommend the following books:. The City of Falling Angels. By John Berendt (of. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Eating Up Italy: Voyages on a Vespa. By Matthew Fort,. The Companion Guide to Venice. By Hugh Honour,. Eat, Pray, Love. By Elizabeth Gilbert (at least the first part about eating in Rome), and the indulgent historic-fictional romance,. By Andrea di Robilant.

Travel with Alice: New York Redux: Part 1

http://travelwithcjalice.blogspot.com/2011/06/new-york-redux-part-1.html

Thursday, June 23, 2011. New York Redux: Part 1. In 2009, I had an epic NYC foodie vacation. Planned, and I ended up leaving half of the itinerary. On the page. In late March 2011, I returned to NYC to take care of some unfinished business. We caught an early morning non-stop Virgin America flight, arriving late afternoon local time. We had just discovered the iPhone game Tiny Wings. Turkey sandwich (comes with mini-Toblerone chocolate! Mark was focused on food, even though our Jean-Georges reservations ...

Travel with Alice: May 2010

http://travelwithcjalice.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 6, 2010. If Saturday was all kinds of wonderful, Sunday was just perfection. It started beautifully with brunch at Brix. And boy does Brix. Live up to its buffet brunch reputation! It started with the food. There weren't all the usual suspects from a buffet brunch (i.e. no omelette. And cucumber, hearts of romaine with "cesar". And candied almonds, which I could not stop popping into my mouth. Who knew that chives were tipped with purple flowers? We stayed so long at Brix. It was starting t...

Travel with Alice: Taiwan: "Small Eats"

http://travelwithcjalice.blogspot.com/2010/10/taiwan-small-eats.html

Monday, October 11, 2010. Everyone's favorite xiao chi turns them into a child again. Everyone has their favorite(s), the one (or two) thing(s) they just can't get enough of. I'll cover our favorite xiao chi here, and then cover the remaining categories of food, like breakfast and night markets, in my next entry. I'll start with Mark's dad, because he was maybe the most enthusiastic out of all of us. He very deliberately sought out bahwan (meat filled glutinous rice ball) and eel noodles. Onto eel. I...

Young Retired Persons of America: August 2009

http://yrpa-usa.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 24, 2009. One of the beauties of being retired is the ability to actually do the things that you really enjoy but never seem to have the time to do when you are fully employed. Or in the case of reading, one of the things that you lose the motivation to do because you are likely spending so much time reading this memo or that report or whatever else you have to read in your job. Wednesday, August 12, 2009. An accomplishment, even more so when I did it three days in a row. It just didn't.

http://cjroo.blogspot.com/2011/09/good-eats-march-2011.html

Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Good Eats March 2011. It's been too long since I've posted Good Eats, pictures of the good food we eat everyday at and near home. I started posting these albums directly on Facebook, but I'm going to try posting them as blog entries for a while. Maybe I can say more about the food . if I can still remember at this point! Here's what we ate in March 2011:. With a little green on the side. I love my American comfort food. Steak with peas and carrots. Weekend lunch @ La Baguette.

CJ's Spot: June 2010

Monday, June 28, 2010. Ad hoc at home #7 and #8: duck. Has proven so far that I can't go wrong with his recipes. Before shopping, I studied the recipes for both the duck confit. And the pan-roasted duck breasts. I noticed two things: first, the duck confit. Required lots of duck fat, and second, the pan-roasted duck breasts produce lots of duck fat that is then discarded. Ding! Went the light bulb in my head. I'll make the duck breast first, strain and save the fat, and then use it in my duck confit.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Peet's vs. Philz. Before I delve into my comparison of Peet's. Oh, but I do love the taste of good coffee. Indeed, I argue I may be even more impartial. I don't drink it out of habit or addiction, but purely out of taste enjoyment. I prefer brewed coffee and Italian caffe. The first time I drank Peet's. Was a revelation. Up until that point I had been an indiscriminate coffee drinker - I enjoyed Starbucks lattes, IHOP. Quite frankly, the Peet's. Less choice on any given visit, sin...

Monday, January 18, 2010. The questions plaguing me at the moment:. 1) How do you get onto the White House speech writing staff, and how much does it pay? 2) How do you ride the trolley in San Francisco . not the cable car or Muni or Caltrain, but the pretty classic trolley cars I see crossing in front of the Ferry Building? Where do you get on, where can you go, how do you pay and how much does it cost? 4) What happened to Sam Seaborn on the West Wing? He falls off the face of the Earth! 10:45am All par...
