Take a glimpse… – My L(e)onely Planet
https://leonahinds.wordpress.com/2015/08/02/take-a-glimpse
Travelling, sport and personal reflections. Take a glimpse…. Or a glance, a peek or a quick look. That was one of my thoughts when cycling through the Devonshire countryside today. I saw so many landscapes of beautiful hills with cows, hay bales, cottages, sheep. You name it, is was there, complete with an array of different colours – green shrubs, trees and grass, blues and whites in the sky and browns of the cottages and houses I passed along the roadside. Dartmoor national park (Devon). Give Kisses, n...

GeoPark Adventure Standard Triathlon – Race Report – My L(e)onely Planet
https://leonahinds.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/geopark-adventure-standard-triathlon-race-report
Travelling, sport and personal reflections. GeoPark Adventure Standard Triathlon – Race Report. This Sunday was the GeoPark Adventure triathlons, there was a sprint and a standard distance and I knew this would be my last race for the time being. Looking at the maps of the course, I also knew it would be the hardest event I’d done so far, as it consisted of a 1500m sea swim, 42km of rolling hills and a 12km undulating run across the coast near Paignton, in Devon. Swimming in the sea. If you’re in t...

Own Your Sport – My L(e)onely Planet
https://leonahinds.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/own-your-sport
Travelling, sport and personal reflections. I can still remember going to the sports shop to buy my first badminton racquet when I was about 9/10. I got a blue Yonex Musclepower one and I loved how light it felt in my hands compared to the bulky, sweaty club ones I was used to borrowing. It was shiny, beautiful and clean, but most importantly, it was mine! I kept it in it’s case and took it to training sessions and tournaments. It’s still in the cupboard now! Travelling, sport and personal reflections. This summer, I have been volunteering at the PDSA charity shop in my local area. I wanted to do some regular volunteering to keep me busy and to give something back (even if I’m not the biggest fan of animals! We can help to generate more income to help pets and their owners live happily together. Our stock is rotated on a fortnightly basis, so items don’t get donated and left to gather dust. We bring out new items each day. If you bring in a bag of donations, ...

Sport in La Palma – My L(e)onely Planet
https://leonahinds.wordpress.com/2013/10/24/sport-in-la-palma
Travelling, sport and personal reflections. Sport in La Palma. Before I came to La Palma, I thought that I would easily be able to join a female basketball team, as it is the second biggest sport in Spain after football. I thought that within a few months I would have many pictures of me posing in my kit with my team members, from the end of each game. But I was very wrong…. For example, last night’s crossfit session included:. 40 wall jumps (climbing up a wall that was at belly-button height). Leave a C...

Travelling, sport and personal reflections. Working as a tour guide. One part of my job is working as a tour guide. I lead groups of international students around places like Nottingham, Sherwood Forest, Durham, Lake District, Peak District and I hope one day to give a tour around my hometown Coventry! You’d think that learning a script and taking students to the same places each week would get boring and repetitive but it really isn’t! Where can you get a bottle of water/cup of coffee? Messages as somet...
