Big Tools
http://www.treecycler.org/orton.html
To make big bowls, you need big tools. Usually I have to make my own. 1944 Orton 30-inch Planer. This is Orton. It used to be in the Universal Studios prop shop, then. Was bought from Universal by one of the managers of that shop. I traded a Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8) for it in 1988. 1903 Crescent 32-inch Bandsaw. This is an old bandsaw. This is a steam box and boiler I made, cooking up some arms for a love seat, prior to bending them onto a form. This is in a campground in Big Bear Ranger District.

Rising from the Ashes of the Station Fire. Three Years After the Inferno. August 29, 2012. Three years ago the Station Fire destroyed my neighborhood. I remember it as if it all happened five minutes ago. I got up just after sunrise, went out to my back yard and looked to the East, toward Grizzly Flats, the Angeles Crest Highway, and the plume of smoke that had dominated my every thought for days. The Station Fire by night, before the inferno came. Photo by Mark Fitzsimmons. Not all of it is bad, though&...

Rising from the Ashes of the Station Fire. Five years and a lifetime ago…. September 15, 2014. Although five years isn’t really a long time, it seems as though the world is a very different place today compared to what it was on August 1, 2009. Objectively, I know that I have changed far more than the world around me, but subjectively there are times when I feel like a stranger in my own life. Things that I thought would never change. And I am not the only who feels altered, different from who we were be...

About & Contact. I-Wood Works For Sustainable Building – Much Like Lincoln Logs. February 14, 2013. We’re often asked shy Profile Lumber is so easy to build with. The answer’s actually pretty easy. It’s the notches. Actually, if you’re like many, you played with Lincoln Logs when you were a kid. Remember how they fit together because of notches? Profile Lumber uses the same idea – I-Wood notches help the structure fit together. If all building were done with I-Wood we’d go a long way toward not onl...
