One of my inner style divas is a 1950′s throwback, who loves glitz and glamour. This particular inner style diva doesn’t play nice with the others, so I tend to keep her suppressed…. but I fell prey a month or so back. For a bauble. Sanity had flown out my window many times when confronted with a too-good-to-be-true deal, so I was on my toes guarding against it. It was towar...

Seven Presidents: Grandma D, 1925-2014
http://sevenpresidents.blogspot.com/2014/04/grandma-d-1925-2014.html
Monday, April 14, 2014. Grandma D, 1925-2014. I had the honor of speaking at my paternal grandmother's memorial service in Indianapolis this past weekend. I wrote out my remarks. I tend to cry a lot at funerals (even for people I didn't know) so I wanted to have a script to keep me grounded. Below are my remarks. To me, some of the best things about my grandmother to me are hallmarks of her stoic upbringing. She recycled greeting cards and envelopes, which I remember fondly, as we were penpals since as I...

Seven Presidents: The Odyssey
http://sevenpresidents.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-odyssey.html
Wednesday, July 8, 2015. I sit here watching Wimbledon waiting to go to the hospital for an 11am appointment to be induced. I don't need to pack a bag because my bag has been in the car for a week! A few days ago I decided that if I felt good (some days are better than others) I would just go about my business as if I wasn't 41 weeks pregnant, and stop worrying about arrival times. But that puts you into a delusional state. There is no baby! Call back at 9. Luckily the Mister only had 1 sip of coffee...

Seven Presidents: April 2015
http://sevenpresidents.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. My daughter likes to look at pictures on my phone, and this weekend, after a few minutes of flipping through them, she said, "Mommy, you have a lot of pictures of me! Understatement of the year. On Monday she decided she wanted to turn the camera around and take some pictures - like a gazillion. What follows are the selects. Sunroom with tomato crop (and finger). Belle" the creepy doll head ornament that my mom felt bad for and won at a Chinese auction. Mom's belly at 30 weeks.

Seven Presidents: March 2015

Monday, March 23, 2015. We missed you so! I really try hard not to complain about the seasons (they are all awesome - just imagine life without seasons! But we definitely hermitted ourselves for a good 6-8 weeks this winter. It's so reassuring when the clocks spring ahead, the sun gets a little stronger, and the grass is once again visible. Saturday, March 21, 2015. Lego artwork by Nathan Sawaya (an NYU graduate). For some reason I expected everything to be made out of legos - the floor, the walls, t...

Seven Presidents: August 2014
http://sevenpresidents.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 24, 2014. Yesterday was the perfect late summer day to bake, cool and cloudy. No hot kitchens or remorse for staying inside. I picked up my baking lieutenant and we made pies (after going grocery shopping in the play kitchen and checking out on our new very fancy play cash register). Peach crumb and mixed berry with the same star crust I made for Memorial Day. So yesterday when we were at the grocery store and I was asking myself what we should make for dinner, I asked myself WWFD? Thus Mr...

Seven Presidents: June 2015
http://sevenpresidents.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 4, 2015. And I just realized, when I think about my career goals, I have a four year plan. 4 years! I suppose I have been programmed to believe that it takes 4 years to learn something: elementary, junior high, high school, college. It's a comfortable amount of time for a "stage." And it did cross my mind, when thinking about having a second child, that it'd be nice not to have both of them in college at the same time. Or are we just weird? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
