Okinawa Day 1 (Zamami Island). On to New Adventures →. Okinawa Day 2 (Shuri Castle and Kokusai Street). May 8, 2015. Our second full day in Okinawa began with a visit to Shuri Castle, the palace of the Ryuukyuu Kingdom. It’s been around since at least the 1300s, but was destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. They began reconstruction in 1992, and now it’s a popular tourist spot. I got the Okinawa Sooki Soba (it has pork added; shown above) and it was soooo good. The meat was incredibly tender.
