True Imaginary Friends: May 2013
http://trueimaginaryfriends.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
True Imaginary Friends: I'm Karen McAulay blogging my journey to publication! Friday, 31 May 2013. Two New Imaginary Friends. A colleague approached me to help research a couple of obscure composers with anniversaries coming up. Lamond and D'Albert were both "modern" by comparison with my own Scottish Victorians, but they're certainly deserving of research. I'm looking forward to finding out more about them - I'll be heading for my old biographical dictionary sources at work next week! This is the third ...

True Imaginary Friends: I'm Karen McAulay blogging my journey to publication! Sunday, 29 December 2013. Landed Gentry and Scottish Musical Dilettantes. I've just encountered a fascinating, useful and authoritative blog about the Landed Families of Britain and Ireland. It's by Nicholas Kingsley, who is (to quote his Twitter profile), 'Head of Archives Sector Development @UkNatArchives. Landedfamilies.blogspot.co.uk. Now, you know my fascination with old eighteenth century Scottish dilettanti! The book whi...

True Imaginary Friends: I'm Karen McAulay blogging my journey to publication! Wednesday, 16 October 2013. And Gale's Pocket Companion Conundrum. Last night I was looking at old song collections in connection with a BBC query. I had a wonderful evening! It was so nice to look at the subjects of my doctoral research with fresh eyes, in a different context. And there they all were, sitting waiting to greet me - the nice old Scottish gents that they were. Books - and the Irish Minstrel. Sadly, there was not ...
True Imaginary Friends: Thirty Favourite Scots Songs untainted by the Caledonian Muse
http://trueimaginaryfriends.blogspot.com/2014/01/thirty-favourite-scots-songs-untainted.html
True Imaginary Friends: I'm Karen McAulay blogging my journey to publication! Thursday, 16 January 2014. Thirty Favourite Scots Songs untainted by the Caledonian Muse. Nonetheless, I discovered they published Thirty Favourite Scots Songs. In two volumes, as much as a decade before the Muses appeared. A Thompsons catalogue listed Scots Songs. And for a while I wondered if these books were actually published by the Thompsons, or were just Bremner's Thirty Scots Songs,. Something of a misnomer in my opinion!

http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2012/01/progress.html
Friday, 20 January 2012. Well the blanket got finished and has gone off down to my mum to keep her lap warm when out and about in the wheelchair - just waiting on confirmation that it's big enough before I use the leftovers to do a cover for the chair cushion! I've finally got the New Lanark Aran project sorted out - after several froggings last weekend much to the amusement of everyone - I'm doing this:. And no, Owen ain't ready yet. Watch this space! Now are you sure you are not frogging it again!
Scraps by Flapsi: December 2010
http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 15 December 2010. It's getting close to Christmas! And I always think of red - probably my fave colour - is such a Christmassy colour. I did this Lacey Baktus for a present for my partner's mother - who's in hospital just now. It seemed such a cheery colour and might hopefully ward off any draughts round the neck! The wool is from the stash - it's Fyberspates BFL sock wool which I got a job lot of 6 skeins last year and have just about got through them! Monday, 13 December 2010. So I finished ...

http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2012/01/muffins-and-blankets.html
Monday, 9 January 2012. Bake number two from my Christmas book - Blueberry and Lemon Muffins - with a secret bite of cream cheese in the middle and covered in lemon drizzle - very nice indeed! And I learned how to use the whisk bit of my food processor (and where it was). Well I suppose at least you started knitting the wool right away. Your muffins look good. 9 January 2012 at 12:40. Scraps by Flapsi: January 2011
http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 24 January 2011. So that's it in 2011 I am cold sheeping! No more wool to be bought til I have used it all up. Apparently I have tennis elbow. Sigh. Which of coure means no knitting and lots of rest. So my question is how do you relax when you can't knit? Friday, 7 January 2011. Finally finished Christmas and New Year! No pics of all the fun things like playing with younger nephew's new pool table and being rubbish at Wii games though. Dinner table reindeers and cake. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Scraps by Flapsi: February 2012
http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 February 2012. Sock it to me. And I'm already on the second one of their successors - Don't think I could travel without a pair of socks on the go. Thursday, 9 February 2012. So the blanket wasn't really big enough, and I did have 5 balls of wool left (and some odds and ends), so of course it had to get bigger. I picked up stitches and extended it log-cabinwise, then added an icord edging. I don't know if it's how you're meant to do an icord edging but it seemed to work! The Hand of Destiny.
Scraps by Flapsi: April 2011

Saturday, 30 April 2011. We went to New Lanark! Wednesday, 27 April 2011. And the cake. Well I decided to use my Tesco vouchers to get Good Food magazine - new recipes to try out, hopefully healthy eating etc etc. So of course I made a cake! Kind of a lemon drizzle cake with potatoes and gluten free flour. And it worked. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Just sharing some musings on colour and wool and photos and life. Scraps by Flapsi: November 2010
http://scrapsbyflapsi.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 28 November 2010. And quickly on to winter. brrrr! Autumn didn't really hang around very long - it's definitely winter now. I know this because the roads are all white, there's a blizzard outside and the car is going nowhere. Probably not even to work tomorrow by the look of things. Hmm. Better go and make a pot of soup before I start the day's knitting! So here's the world from the third floor. Nice to get a bit of sun amidst the blizzards! Doesn't last long though! Wednesday, 17 November 2010.
