Broken Lights: A Short Story Narrated by God
http://perplextinfaith.blogspot.com/2014/05/a-short-story-narrated-by-god.html
Saturday, May 31, 2014. A Short Story Narrated by God. Last night I was thinking of what I think of God.and so, in utter blasphemy, I attempted to write a short story from the perspective of the Almighty. I'm not pretending to know what God actually is or means- this is just the best expression I could come up with of what I currently think of God. It caught me off guard. Most people had simply made up names for me—but Moses actually had the decency to ask what I thought of myself. Well the simple answer...

Broken Lights: To be Free from Suffering

Tuesday, January 28, 2014. To be Free from Suffering. A comment on my last post made me realize I need to clarify something. How can I accept the world exactly as it is, and yet desire that people be free from suffering? Isn't this an incredible contradiction? It isn't, for two reasons: this sort of acceptance comes from a place of nondual thinking, and so to accept the world is to accept my desires, as well. Second, to be free from suffering does not necessarily mean that the suffering ends. As we cease...

Monday, August 5, 2013. 8220;That We May Fill the Mountains”: Marriage, Mormonism, and the Historical Context. 8220;The principle of plurality of wives never will be done away… go ahead upon the right principle, young gentlemen,. And God bless you forever and ever, and make you fruitful, that we may fill the mountains and then the earth with righteous inhabitants. That is my prayer, and that is my blessing upon all the Saints and upon your posterity after you, forever. Amen”. In order to accept Orson Pra...

Broken Lights: October 2014

Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Your beliefs are not sacred. And neither are mine. The last two posts on the Millennial Mormons blog have sent me thinking. Obviously my mind first went to Chinese literature and political philosophy. In what follows, I’ve tried to outline what I find troubling in the attitudes of Blake Oakley and Samantha Shelley. A brief recap of what they said: Blake Oakley reemphasized the astounding fact that the Church’s doctrine has not changed. If you choose the former, then by necessi...

Broken Lights: September 2013

Saturday, September 21, 2013. Man uses his ideas for the defense of his existence, to frighten away reality.". Prepare for rambling that may or may not make sense. I also came across a poem tonight that I wrote in my junior year of high school. Majestic, tall, and grand they stand,. The mountains of my dreams,. Leaving realness, all that's bland. And all that simple seems. And in their stead, when I awake. Within my soul I see. That I can more than realness make. And more than realness be. But on the oth...

Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The Way Things Ought to Be. Or body-driven compulsions. The superego is the set of prohibitions and admonitions ingrained into the child by parents and others as they grow up; it’s a socially constructed conscience. The ego is the battleground of the id and the superego. It’s the consciously active area of the mind that makes sense of and orders daily interaction with the senses, the nafs. Or is it created? Though varied, biology produces similar urges in the “animal-spi...
