Trust The Children

Monday, April 06, 2015. The opportunity home schoolers have. We learn to think through intellectual engagement and intellectual combat, not through indoctrination. This quote from Roger Shank describes those moments when home schooling made the biggest difference in our children. The whole motivation issue associated with formal teaching goes away when kids have fun learning through exploration and we as parent assure them that it counts for real learning. Trust The Children: Put an end to summer - Obama

http://trustthechildren.blogspot.com/2010/09/put-end-to-summer-obama.html

Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Put an end to summer - Obama. President Obama proposes the end of summer for our kids? However, this proposal by our President prompted me to reflect and share the following from an article I read for one of my classes. My son David, blogged. About it too. The same quote. Sawyer goes on to outline these problematic "commonsense assumptions" as follows:. Knowledge is a collection of facts. About the world and procedures. This traditional vision of schooling is known as instruc...

All about the girls. . . . and a boy. : who is homeless

http://ambersarea.blogspot.com/2012/11/who-is-homeless.html

All about the girls. . . . and a boy. Once, when I was in 9th grade I wrote a "research paper". It was the first research paper I ever wrote. I used the card catalog in the Pleasant Grove Junior High school library to find books. Using the dewey decimal system). I am sure that my carefully gathered facts from outdated, not peer reviewed journals and books are long past outdated (That was 19 years ago. . . . but that is beside the point). Now I am homeless. They just aren't MY home. It is hard moving.

All about the girls. . . . and a boy. : 20.5

http://ambersarea.blogspot.com/2012/11/205.html

All about the girls. . . . and a boy. Right now I am liking the number 26.2 a lot more than 20.5. 205 is the number of days I have left to teach before I get married. I don't really like that number. I would much rather run 26.2 miles and deal with the physical exhaustion of a marathon than the emotional exhaustion of knowing I only have 20.5 days left of teaching. It is taking it's toll. And I haven't even told the kids I'm leaving. I know I can run 26.2 and survive and even feel good after finishing.

Eric thinks that Erica is a suitable name. No offense to Erica's but it just isn't going to happen. I think I might be a Cache Valley local now. The color is coming back into the Valley and its time for me to share again! Tuesday, July 21, 2009. After getting in so late from the AFC tour I was so glad to have a bank holiday where I didn't have to get up and work on a Saturday! I slept in and it felt great. Christine was in town for the weekend and Mom wanted to go up the canyon and see the wild flowers so when I finally did get up, we took off. This is me and my awesome dog Ryker! So the four of us too...

All about the girls. . . . and a boy. Who apparently doesn't do birthdays. So today was Eric's birthday. Do you think I did anything nice. I mean that is what a fiance would do right? I basically had a melt-down. After I told him happy birthday of course and then burst into tears for not doing anything nice for his birthday. He did exactly what I wanted him to for my birthday. I did exactly nothing. I get home from a marathon day after it is long past dark. And then I hear his voice and I lose it. He kno...
