The Travels of Tug 44. A Photo Tour of. EPA/GE Hudson River PCB Dredging. Upper Hudson River / Champlain Canal - Fort Edward, NY. The first year of dredging has now been completed. The Fort Edward Yacht Harbor has now been dredged to 12 feet depth in most areas, and to a depth of about 6 feet in the access channel leading to the harbor. The New York State Canal System, as we know it today, dates back to 1918, and much of the machinery and electrical equipment is also from that era. Maintenance has always been a critical issue on the Canals and the Lock Keepers spend countless hours polishing brass, painting, lubrication and general maintenance. The Travels of Tug 44. 2006 Erie Canal Flood. Many boats were stuck at flooded ports for nearly a month and some were damaged. Local residents and rescue squads were extremely helpful and provided boaters with hot meals and a couch to sleep on. Tug 44 was detained during a minor flood early in June, but that was nothing compared to the destruction that followed later. We cleared the canal system on June 23rd, just a day or two before everything was submerged. Here are some photos of what it looked like:.

From New York City one can cruise some 200 miles up to Fort Edward, New York, where it becomes too shallow to continue to its source in the Adirondak mountains. Above Troy, the river becomes the Champlain Canal and is fresh water. Here are some of the towns and points of interest on the Hudson River:. Hudson Power Boat Association. Town of Hyde Park. The Travels of Tug 44. One of my favorite stops, Brockport has a brand new (2006) canal port with a new Visitor's Center situated between two lift bridges. A branch of the State University of New York (SUNY) is just down the street. Both ends of the port have a lift bridge. This one is the Park Avenue Lift Bridge, at the east end of the port. The new Visitor's Center incudes all the amenities, showers, bathrooms and laundry, as well as internet and even free loaner bicycles. Tug 44 Home Page.
