You can visit us here without prior appointment from Monday to Saturday during the day between 8:00 and 18:00 o'clock. If you are coming from the town Sungailiat, take one of the Pecak (motorbike rickshas) that will take about 10 minutes to Batavia and cost 20.000 Rp. After 53 days of breeding time, they hatch (usually at night time) and we put them into sea water in huge buckets. This way we are trying to avoid that the predators eat the hatchlings. Sea turtles are one of the most ancient creatures that are still living on this planet. But since a few decades, their population is shrinking very fast, due to takings of their eggs and illegal nets. We are dedicated to sea turtle breeding, to rescue the vanishing sea turtle population in the seas worldwide. Sea turtles are usually reaching an age of 60 to 80 years. You are welcome to visit us and see our work yourself. You can also join the sea turtle release, which happens about once a month.

Tukik Babel was created by Sian Soegito in the year 2008, out of his own interest for sea turtles. In the first 4 years we were using a hatchery within the Batavia Banka Beach resort, where we raised the hatched turtles in artificially made water tanks. We found out that if we keep the turtles longer than 2 months, they become lazy and attached to being fed, so they would come back to the beach even if released from a boat.
