Music from the Third Floor. Monday, December 29, 2014. Various: Cabaret Songs From Films (1976). Before disco, there was of course the cabaret number. And considering how much these show-stopping songs have informed the whole Music From The Third Floor project I think it only appropriate that a compilation of some of the best ones should be the blog's 300th record posted. Mera Naam Hai Shabnam'. From soundtracks still on my want list. Come on guys, help me find 'em) and this collection has me beaming.

Madan Mohan: Hanste Zakhm (1972) ~ Music From The Third Floor
http://www.mft3f.com/2008/12/madan-mohan-hanste-zakhm-1972.html
Music from the Third Floor. Friday, December 26, 2008. Madan Mohan: Hanste Zakhm (1972). I mentioned a short while back. That Madan Mohan made one of my favourite Bollywood albums. Here it is; not the most consistent soundtrack I own, but featuring two tracks that both fall into the 'stop whatever you're doing' category. Mohd Rafi's 'Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho'. Look like a luridly coloured nouvelle vague film (Hindi style). Which I'm pretty sure it's not, but I do. Classy artwork as well. PS 'Hanste Zakhm' is a...

Rahul Dev Burman: Kudrat (1980) ~ Music From The Third Floor
http://www.mft3f.com/2014/12/rahul-dev-burman-kudrat-1980.html
Music from the Third Floor. Friday, December 19, 2014. Rahul Dev Burman: Kudrat (1980). The last regular post before Christmas. RD Burman again, and a rather good one even though it's not among his most memorable, or at least not the most immediately accessible. And the strings on the first 'Hamen Tumse Pyar Kitna'. Are sumptuous. Parveen Sultana's singing on the second version. Which is the sort of thing that will make you want to dance, but slowly, nonchalantly, with your eyes closed. 4 Asha Bhosle: Sa...

Frequently asked questions ~ Music From The Third Floor
http://www.mft3f.com/p/frequently-asked-questions.html
Music from the Third Floor. How do you digitize vinyl, and how do you make the sound quality so good? First and foremost, I look for well-taken care of records; I generally avoid scratched and noisy ones. I use a Stanton turntable, connected to a Mac. I record using Sound Studio. And then clean/tweak using that combined with ClickRepair. Look around the Internet for other software options, and possibly alternative ways of digitizing. That said, couldn't you make the MP3 bit rate higher? The download link...

Laxmikant Pyarelal: Anurodh (1976) ~ Music From The Third Floor
http://www.mft3f.com/2015/03/laxmikant-pyarelal-anurodh-1976.html
Music from the Third Floor. Friday, March 27, 2015. Laxmikant Pyarelal: Anurodh (1976). I'm on the fence about 'Anurodh'. The atmospheric intro to 'Mere Dil Ne Tarap Ke'. As well as a couple of pizzicato strings and saxophone interludes, and the variety of breaks on 'Aate Jaate Khoobsoorat'. 1 Kishore Kumar: Aapke Anurodh Pe. 2 Kishore Kumar: Mere Dil Ne Tarap Ke. 3 Manna Dey and Chorus: Tum Besahara Ho (Sad). 4 Kishore Kumar: Aate Jaate Khoobsoorat. 5 Manna Dey and Chorus: Tum Besahara Ho (Happy). Great...

Various: Disco Hits From Hindi Films (1980) ~ Music From The Third Floor

Music from the Third Floor. Friday, December 26, 2014. Various: Disco Hits From Hindi Films (1980). Stumbling over this recently, I was drawn to the cover not only because of it's enticing imagery, but because it looked very familiar. And no wonder, as an almost identical one was used on Cultures of Soul's 'Bombay Disco'. Set from earlier this year. Actually makes its third appearance, 'Chhodo Sanam'. Was featured only a few days ago, 'Jab Chaye'. Need music for the New Year's party? 6 Bappi Lahiri and C...

POP YEH YEH RESEARCH TRIP. Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Guest blogger Ghaz writes on Celebrating Malaysia's Independence (Merdeka) through music! The above photo came from a yearbook that Adnan Othman had saved from his school days - possibly from 1957! How's life in Richmond? I think of you when Richmond or Virginia is mentioned in any current US TV series shown on our Malaysian television channels. My country has just celebrated its National Day on 31 August, which is about 3 days ago. Http:/ www.yo...
