Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Apr 1st, back to SFO. Today is April 1st. I wish this was a joke and that my trip is not over after all. The transfer is real, so is the airport, check in, last minute shopping at the beautiful Istanbul airport. The security is very strict and seems forever. We're finally in the aircraft for a smooth flight back to USA. I'll definitely keep in touch with Yesim. I cannot go back to Turkey without her. Monday, March 31, 2008. Saturday, March 29, 2008. March 29, Pamukkale/Ephesus/Kusadasi. After a very relaxing and fulfilling lunch we visit Virgin Mary's small house where she spent her last days. This is a pilgrimage place for Roman has received the official sanction of the Vatican. Catholics and the sister chants Ave Maria just for us. She's so sweet. Sunday, March 30, 2008. March 30, To Pergamum/Troy/Canakkale. In most of my travels to Turkey the itineraries skipped Pergamum. Since it saves time to fly back from Izmir instead of driving all the way north to Dardanelles and to Istanbul. So today I'm going back to these places I haven't seen since my childhood. We drive thru. A lovely small, sleepy town to the Asclepion. The ancient medical center built after Asclepion. We also visit the Acropolis, temple of Athena, the Agora. March 25, 26 Cappadocia.
