Turtons on Tour

Tuesday, 15 February 2011. Cambodia, Bangkok . and home! We didn't like the Killing Fields memorial at all. The rainy weather had washed away the topsoil to expose shreds of clothing, and bones and teeth still in the dirt along and around the paths. We wished someone would build a platform to give a little dignity to the thousands of people still buried in mass graves on the site. Guy left for the airport pretty early in the morning, and we jumped on a bus to Siem Reap. Unlike the rest of low-season ...

Turtons on Tour: Turkey Part One

http://www.turtonsontour.blogspot.com/2010/08/turkey-part-one.html

Thursday, 26 August 2010. We didn't get up to much in Gaziantep – we lazed by the pool and enjoyed the first English language television we'd seen in a while – but that was our aim. We did however get out and sample some of the baklava for which Gaziantep is renowned and also our first of many (too many? Turkish kebabs, a delicious concoction of lamb, eggplant and yoghurt baked in a clay pot and called the Ali Nazik. On the last day before we left, Mehmet booked us onto a Blue Cruise, leaving from Olympo...

Turtons on Tour: Greece

http://www.turtonsontour.blogspot.com/2010/09/greece.html

Tuesday, 21 September 2010. Our cabin was OK though. We had a nice hotel in Thessaloniki though, which is just as well as there was a heatwave – it was again in the late-thirties or forties – and way too hot to venture out too far. We were left on a corner, half-way along an un-sealed road to nowhere. It wouldn't even take us all the way to nowhere! We stayed in Kalambaka for a couple of nights, then drove back to Thessaloniki, via Eddessa, which had some reasonably impressive waterfalls. Finally we caug...

Turtons on Tour: March 2010

http://www.turtonsontour.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 27 March 2010. The Lakes, Yorkshire and Norfolk. Because we had been on the go so much in Ireland, we decided it would be nice to find a place to stay put for a little while and what better place to do this than in the Lakes District. After a little bit of research we managed to find a relatively inexpensive self catering apartment which we could rent for a week in Bowness on Windermere - so we booked it! The further north you go the less the girls wear on a night out. Whilst Meaghan was with u...

Turtons on Tour: May 2010

http://www.turtonsontour.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 30 May 2010. We also did a half day out to Robben Island. The view back to Table Mountain was stunning:. We were shown around the prison by a former political prisoner, who had been imprisoned on the island. His eyes welled up when he spoke of the torture and depravity they'd had to endure. On the Monday we picked up our nippy Hyundai Accent, and headed back down to the tip of the Cape of Good Hope for a look and some photos,. Before driving to Hermanus, our base for the next day's shark diving!

Turtons on Tour: April 2010

http://www.turtonsontour.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 28 April 2010. From Rwanda to Zanzibar. Rwanda was fascinating but unsettling. I've never been anywhere before where they need roadside signs warning of the evils of genocide. It's also nice to see that the government has also banned all plastic bags and apparently many people are stopped and searched at the border (although we managed to sneak (smuggle? Needless to say, we'll post photos (one day). With an Australian guide called Dennis (understandably he prefers us to use his nickname 'Graci...

Fraser's fables: Cappadocia - Rocks!!!

http://fraserjwilson.blogspot.com/2014/05/cappadocia-rocks.html

Tuesday, 27 May 2014. If you don't like rocks, then look away now. We arrived late after a short flight from Istanbul and were driven to our hotel in the dark. The hotel itself was supposed to be a cave, but it wasn't really. At least it was made out of the same rock. Straight away, into the rocks, and this is right beside the road. Wandering the Derwent valley. At the Zelve Open Air Museum. Wheel for grinding grain in the background. Camels for the tourists, and fairy chimneys. Our 'Cave' Hotel room.

Fraser's fables: June 2012

http://fraserjwilson.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 18 June 2012. A wintry weekend escape to Cradle Mountain was on the agenda. We flew into Launceston and it was like landing in Dunedin, small airport slightly out of town and a calm, clear, cold winter's day. It was a couple of hours drive to Cradle Mountain but the roads were quiet and the scenery was good. Our little cottage was excellent, small wooden hut but good facilities and good heating. We went for a walk to a couple of waterfalls on the Saturday afternoon. Bush on the way to waterfalls.

http://fraserjwilson.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Friday, 18 January 2013. Shanon and Katie were over for a week in mid January. Kelley was well organised with a plan that involved a day at the Australian Open tennis, a trip to the theatre to see Jersey Boys and a wine tour in the Yarra Valley courtesy of their friendly driver. They had a good day. Kelley, Katie, and Shanon. Drinks at Chandon at the end of the day. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Fraser's fables: Blue Cruise

http://fraserjwilson.blogspot.com/2014/05/blue-cruise.html

Friday, 30 May 2014. After a second breakfast and a bit of a snooze, we plucked up the courage to take on the rugged descent down the cliff to Butterfly valley. The guidebook recommended caution and noted that an Australian tourist had died attempting the descent so that made me wanted to give it a crack even more! Steep 'track' down to the valley. Side of the valley from halfway down the track. One day cruise boat at Butterfly beach. On the ferry to Olundeniz. Paraglider from Mt Babadag. The two days in...

Fraser's fables: December 2012

http://fraserjwilson.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, 29 December 2012. Peter and Robyn's visit Christmas 2012. Peter and Robyn arrived for a well deserved holiday for the week encompassing Christmas, Boxing day test and Kelley's birthday. They didn't get much of a holiday, it was rather busy. The day after they arrived was a harsh welcome to summer in Melbourne with hot winds and a temperature nearing 40 degrees. We escaped by heading out to Healsville and enjoying a late celebration of Peter's birthday with a seafood buffet. The old cabinets wer...

Friday, 20 April 2012. Dad and the pups. Four pups keeping Dad amused on the lawn at Alexandra. Pups of Bevan's dog Moss and Dad's dog Spy. Friday, 13 April 2012. Weka foraging for food on a rainy start at Ships Cove. More Weka, there were plenty of them and very curious. Lunchtime was at Furneaux Lodge. Typical Marlborough Sounds view, spoiled by the rain and grey clouds. This is more like it, day 2 views. Kelley about to tackle some steep rocky downhill. Brief respite from pushing uphill. Thursday, 23 January 2014. Tennis Season, 2014. Mum and her friend Elva were here to stay for the middle week of the Australian Open, arriving in 40 degrees and braving their first day in those temperatures. They handled it extremely well. After another couple of days and a night session with us, Elva went home and Mum stayed on for another week for a holiday of watching tennis. Stan serving against Robredo in the 4th round. He went on to win. Warwinka v Robredo, night session. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, 1 February 2015. Rail trail with tunnel in the distance. Kelley booked a night away in the Goulburn Valley on my birthday weekend. The History Of Cosmetic Surgery. Teeth could ruin your career. Teeth could ruin your career. Posted by Martin Billian. On Dec 14, 2014 in Uncategorized. Solve this problems now, if you wait you will be sorry later. The orthodontist observed me and looked at exactly how bad I looked, he adamantly recommended that I get my teeth repaired, yet even with all the urging from him I said no due to the fact that he terrified me, I was not going to let this man anywhere near my mouth.
