Twelve Acres: A Year In Eggs

http://twelveacres.blogspot.com/2009/09/year-in-eggs.html

Tuesday, September 1, 2009. A Year In Eggs. It's official, the year of counting eggs from my 14 layers is finally over! I have completed the chart, at right, so that you can see how things turned out. If you're thinking about getting chickens or are just curious about how many eggs a hen can potentially lay, it will give you an idea of what to expect. My girls averaged 18 eggs per hen, per month which is a 58% lay rate per month. Hunted and Pecked by. September 1, 2009 at 10:51 PM. I found that interesti...

Twelve Acres: Duck Eggs

http://twelveacres.blogspot.com/2009/08/duck-eggs.html

Saturday, August 8, 2009. Can you tell which one is the duck egg? My ducks lay jumbo eggs and I like to use them in cakes. They seem to make cakes more moist. I can't explain why but that's been my experience. Duck eggs are also more nutritious than chicken eggs. For a comparison of nutrients, click. While we're on the subject of duck eggs, I woke up this morning to see that Macaroni has 10 brand new fuzzy babies under her. There are 3 yellow ones and 7 dusky gray ones. I'm going t. Tuesday, April 28, 2009. So please join me in welcoming Myrtle.or Yertle. UPDATE* * About an hour after I took these photos I watched as big Myrtle lumbered into the pond, one step at a time. Twelve Acres: My How They've Grown!

http://twelveacres.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-how-theyve-grown.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. My How They've Grown! This bright orange lily bloomed today. It's so bright that I can even see it from a distance. My lavender plants are so lush and beautiful right now. I planted a dozen more this year I love them so much. The bees love them too. Macaroni's babies are three weeks old and so fun to watch. I got a video of them eating coon tail in the pond today. Murphy and Macaroni are keeping watch over them, although Murphy doesn't like them getting too close to him. Aw, no mor...

Monday, May 24, 2010. Friday we took the day off, set our alarm clock for 5am (yep that’s right) and then headed out on a 2 hour drive to Mt. Moosilauke here in NH. It is the first over 4,000 foot mountains in NH on the Appalachian Trail standing at a honkin 4,802! I have climbed this. The snow covered mountain in the picture is actually Mt. Washington. Hopefully he will settle in, learn some manners and be ready to go to his new home! Next weekend we bring home Noah! So much for relaxation! Worth it now...

Monday, March 21, 2011. I think every year I go through a baking phase. It must be the nesting winter stuff. Not sure. I do know that every day you put the TV on and there is another freaking show about cupcakes. This has really fueled my cupcake love. Seriously, cupcakes are like the perfect little food. Andrew and I baked tonight once again its all about the cupcakes really and here is what we came up with:. 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract. 2 cups all-purpose flour. Monday, August 30, 2010. Summer Crookneck Squash - 150 Seeds. Yesterday I cleared out several beds. I pulled the old bean plants as well as the snap peas. I also ended up with a pretty darn good case of powdery mildew. I am sure Dave will be happy to help me with the "milling your own wheat" post I have swirling in my head too! Which is one of the winter ideas. Until then. hasta la bye bye ;). Links to this post. Saturday, August 28, 2010. This picture they were turning and went right over our heads.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Never never attempt to dust a chicken around the 15 pound rooster. Links to this post. Monday, April 11, 2011. One was as you remember a few weeks ago, we cut down on the number of chickens that we have. We went from 13 to 7 and that means that there are 6 in the freezer. We actually have NOT eaten any of them yet but it has been out of pure unadulterated lack of time and not that we are afraid to eat our own chickens. It is actually the opposite. Other than that life is the same.

I think unless I do it, there will be that slight tug and "shoulda" feelings. I just can't see any way to accomplish these things and still maintain the other things that make me happy in life. Monday, January 24, 2011. Last night the kids drove home from their dad's house. It is kind of nice to have them driving themselves nowadays rather than the bi monthly trips 80 miles round trip. The dogs were going ape but the kids had not pulled into the driveway. Couldnt figure it out. then the son comes in. "uh mom.". You know its going to be a great week when it starts off with your daughter playing chicken with a lamp post. No worries, the daughter and the son are ok. Also, did I mention the temps?
