Kate Mellor Photography | Projects | In The Steps Of Robert Pinnacle
http://katemellor.org.uk/projects/pinnacle/index.html
In The Steps Of Robert Pinnacle. This work was made for a commission to document European spa towns. I chose to base the project on the career of the landscape painter Robert Pinnacle, who visited and resided amongst these unique societies which provided his main source of patronage.

Between The Professional And The Personal. Une Semaine de Bonheur, reviewed by Ian Biggs. This aspiration somehow both darkened and deepened in the extraordinary series In the Steps of Robert Pinnacle, with its melancholic exploration - made explicit in images such as Maritata and Persons of Substance - of a culture of restorative practices and their decay, implicit within the history of European Spa towns from which the project takes its starting point. Une Semaine de Bonheur (2001).

Kate Mellor Photography | Projects | Island: The Sea Front
http://www.katemellor.com/projects/island/index.html
Island: The Sea Front. Kate Mellor began the project Island:The Sea Front in 1989 when Britain began building the Channel Tunnel. This construction work created much consideration of Britain's identity, of the legacy of an imperialist past, the residual insularity of the island. This work looks at the connections between geography, history and cultural constructions and explores the way photography and cartography have been used to define the territory.

Une Semaine de Bonheur. I've photographed subject matter that a person on holiday might engage with rather than do what is considered to be' worthwhile' as documentary photography. (See Provence #27 Children, ponies, cat. Or #26 Let the people decide.

Kate Mellor Photography | Projects | Close To Home
http://www.katemellor.com/projects/close/index.html
Kate Mellor continues to add to the personal project Close to Home. She says, I wanted to photograph things that were nearer to me, to look at where I live and the people around me. I was fed up of distance. I wanted to look at roots - the locality where I put down roots and also to consider the roots of photography - the early photographers and the photographic process.
