OUR STORY: Happy, loud, messy, boy-filled, wonderful life. Wednesday, October 29, 2008. One thing I haven't mentioned on my blog yet is that we have been building an addition onto our house so that we could adopt. We've done all the work ourselves, so it's taken a looooooong time! Links to this post. Sunday, October 26, 2008. Conversations With My Six Year Old. Me: "Mark, you have done great this week! Mark: "Yeah, and you know what else? Saturday, December 4, 2010. Day 4: All I really want for Christmas. This is an inspiring song by Steven Curtis Chapman (whose family has also been touched by adoption, with three daughters from China). This song helps to remember all those kids who wait for families. (And makes me want to bring them all home NOW! Friday, December 3, 2010. Day 3: Vocals and Humor! Time for something lighter, don't you think? Enjoy the Christmas Can-Can! Thursday, December 2, 2010. Day 2: Stop the Cavalry. This holiday sea...

If you aren't familiar with Bollywood, "bollywood" is a nickname given to Mumbai, in India, the location of the largest film studios in the world- Yes, India makes more movies than the USA. And " I hate luv stories. Sic]" as well as " What's your Rashee. Want to win an iPad? I’m posting this to enter a contest offered by CheckNGo at The Centsible Life!

Wednesday, June 6, 2012. A painting of St. Tekla. Please pardon my blogging: This is cross-posted from my other blog: www.thepennywisefamily.com. And now for something completely different. Far from my typical frugal fare, I have a story to tell, and can’t think of where to tell it, so here it goes. This jagged stone trail, often littered with thorns and sharp stones was climbed daily by many lenten pilgrims, evidenced by blood over many stones from the bare feet of visitors. This, we were told by a kind...

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Raising Funds for Sudan Mission. Many of you know, that we're planning a mission to South Sudan in 2012. Our church has a large membership of South Sudanese refugees. They've told us the story of the civil war, which raged since 1985, and we celebrated together when a resolution passed in January of this year making South Sudan a separate nation, finally ending a war. If you are interested in helping our trip, we are actively raising donations with fundraiser sales and donations...

Tuesday, May 10, 2011. We're Headed to Sudan! Here's our big news: Our family has committed to a mission trip to South Sudan in early 2012. We're really excited (and scared) about this trip. We'll be traveling to the planet's newest country (The Republic of South Sudan becomes independent on July 9th, 2011). We're headed to the Upper Nile State in South Sudan for about a month and we have several major projects on our agenda for the duration of our trip. You can also see our mission's day-to-date updates...

Friday, October 8, 2010. An old, funny video. This video was taken in the spring (2010) when we went to Missouri to visit my grandpa and my dad. Melat was sitting on this swiveling chair toy at a park, but it was a really windy day, and her fro-tails (pigtails) were like kites and kept spinning her, faster and faster. Friday, November 26, 2010. Thanksgiving has come and gone like a flash, and I can't help but think about how thankful I am for our family, the fact that this year we've never had to go without, and that our children constantly challenge us and provoke us with their thoughts, questions and behaviors. (Sometimes this is good, and sometimes this is not.). I've had a handful of recent experiences with the kids that made me really chuckle, so I thought I'd share some of these with you. Lastly, tonight, Destin...

Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Water for the World. I mentioned a while back about our planned trip to South Sudan to work on water projects, education and microbusiness. This past weekend we joined our South Sudanese friends in celebrating what they've waited a lifetime to see- the independence of their country. South Sudan became an independent and soverign nation on July 9, 2011. And fishing businesses and sewing mosquito nets locally, rather than hiring out work to China. There was a huge party in Seattle t...
