Aspie Wise: February 2011
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 27, 2011. Big, fat lip. Before long, thankfully, it was over. Sigh. Dora's song, "We did it! I turned to talk with the receptionist then walked with him to the door. As we opened the door, I glanced at him and saw that his lip was bleeding. Upon closer examination, I could see that within that brief moment he had taken a nice hunk out of his lip. Blah! Saturday, February 26, 2011. Keeping me in stitches. Upon opening an email last night, I found myself darkly amused. Normally, when I...

Aspie Wise: March 2010
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 31, 2010. I wasn't always a mom of an autistic child or of twins. I wasn't always a mom. I wasn't always focused on children. I wasn't always married. I used to be a very insecure girl who was fortunate enough to avoid the serious predators I was a magnet for those seeking easy prey. I was way too nice even when I knew I shouldn't be. Being nice wasn't as scary as confronting someone who was crossing the line. I wasn't always in my 30s. I wasn't always so serious. Tuesday, March 30, 2010.

Aspie Wise: The Power of Validation
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-power-of-validation.html
Friday, August 24, 2012. The Power of Validation. Needless to say for those who are familiar with Aspergers (or autism in general), none of us play it adequately for N. (I'm actually using our time on Minecraft as a way to work on his flexibility and social skills since he's more likely to learn these skills while doing something he loves.). Of course, that didn't work! Issue for the rest of their time playing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. View my complete profile.

Aspie Wise: November 2011
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Opening Gifts Social Story and Games. The following social story explains 4 steps to opening gifts:. 1) Open card first; 2) open gift; 3) thank the person for gift; 4) say only positive things about gift. Think it or Say it? Explain that there are some things that are best left unsaid and to be thought only in our head. Have them place the phrase on the appropriate bubble as shown below:. Second Game: Let's open presents! Example of "good" gifts (candy). Example of "bad" gif...

Aspie Wise: June 2011
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 19, 2011. Happy F'ing Father's Day. I recently read a good post about trying to find a good Father's Day card for a father of a child with special needs. Here is the link: http:/ utahmaks.blogspot.com/p/perfect-fathers-day-card 05.html. It's a great post, although it's a little nicer than I am as you can see by my title. You would think that Father's Day for a father of children with special needs would be a massive celebration because it should be. My husband deserves a fantabulous. I defin...

Aspie Wise: June 2010
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 28, 2010. Cargo has been found! Sometimes I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be the mom to three neurotypical (NT) kids. I think I know what it's like to be the parent of one NT child but there are moments when even he makes me wonder how NT he is (half joking here - he does model some of his brothers' behaviors). Side note:. There were a few moments today where my husband and I just laughed at how odd our life is. So, here is my balancing act: how do I reward his enthusiasm an...

Aspie Wise: Uncertain Future
http://aspie-wise.blogspot.com/2012/09/uncertain-future.html
Saturday, September 8, 2012. How do I know this is the real me and not the dream me? And "When I die, how will Santa bring us presents? Ok, so maybe not all the questions are big ones but they are certainly big ones for my 5 year olds. For those with children who have autism, you know what kinds of questions that cross your mind. What can I do for my child to help them live happy, productive lives? What services do they need? Will they ever talk? Will they fall in love? Will they be ok when I'm gone?
