Two Fools Abroad

Two Fools Abroad: To Agamemnon's palace (we think)

http://twofoolsabroad.blogspot.com/2007/08/to-agamemnons-palace-we-think.html

Monday, August 13, 2007. To Agamemnon's palace (we think). This place, Nafplios, is like some kind of European resort, the sidewalks facing the harbor covered for miles in every direction, it seems by rows and rows of cafe tables and umbrellas. We feel fancy and significant just sitting there. Routinely after one of these comments, he adds that he wishes he had a girlfriend and that she were here with him rather than me. Understandable if irritating. Did you hear any rumblngs from the oracle? Leslie, giv...

Two Fools Abroad: Disaster averted...

http://twofoolsabroad.blogspot.com/2007/08/disaster-averted.html

Friday, August 3, 2007. So we get back on the bus with the lady in yellow, go a few blocks more, and disembark once again. She points to the street nearby, and we stroll a few blocks to find our car rental place, incredibly. We present ourselves and our papers and the sweet girl behind the counter asks Leslie, 'may I see your driver's license? No,' I tell him, 'just disappointed' and I grit my teeth. Vesuvio, incidentally, looms over everything, keeping an eye on things. But not before a quick lunch, wor...

Two Fools Abroad: A good meal, finally, and a lost day

http://twofoolsabroad.blogspot.com/2007/08/good-meal-finally-and-lost-day.html

Monday, August 6, 2007. A good meal, finally, and a lost day. We left cramped Taormina (I have never been to a place that so desparately clings to the side of a mountain like Taormina.you get the feeling that one trip, and you will slip to a certain, rocky, and finally wet death) yesterday for Siracusa. The drive was fine, except we had to get off the main Autostrade, and onto a much lesser highway, much more trafficky. We retreated midday to a restaurant next to our hotel (this one recommended by our re...

Two Fools Abroad: An abrupt ending...

http://twofoolsabroad.blogspot.com/2007/08/abrupt-ending.html

Tuesday, August 14, 2007. We left Nafplios this morning by bus, having had to forego a visit to the castle hanging above town since none of the taxi drivers would take us last night. Our language skills failed us, and the drivers were apparently in no mood to drive anyone anywhere, opting instead to loaf on their wide asses and chat the evening out with their compatriots. And so it ends. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I join the Professor. To Agamemnons palace (we think). By bus to Nafplios.

Two Fools Abroad: Day 2 in Greece...too much

http://twofoolsabroad.blogspot.com/2007/08/day-2-in-greecetoo-much.html

Friday, August 10, 2007. Day 2 in Greece.too much. After a late start, we head to the Archeological Museum where we find a stunning but exhausting collection of art and stuff from prehistory through the classical Greece ages. Around nearly every turn, Dr. M would gasp."my god, I've seen a picture of that statue all of my life.here it is! It is all too much to catalog here, but take my word for it, it was worth the 7 Euros and bucket of sweat it took to get us in. We have screwed up, and cannot go to Delp...

Two Fools and a Bike: A Trip to Oz

Two Fools and a Bike: A Trip to Oz. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Extra: road trip infrastructure. One of the things that Ruthie and I discussed a fair bit while on our road trip was the prevalence of the little blue and yellow i. Every town that we have entered – not just on this particular trip – has had a well-marked location where you can find information about the town you’ve just entered. We’ve agreed that this is something just not as common in America, and that’s just a bit sad. Again, theory only, bu...
