Two Serious Bikes

Friday, November 16, 2012. Marcel, I am proud to say, is done. This is a bike that has been years and years and years. This was by far the longest, most complicated build I've ever done. Since time is at a premium these days, I decided not to bother documenting it, and just get it done. One of the main complicating factors was my lack of shop space. I just clamped my vise to my desk and went for it. Here he is: Marcel. Is part of the name too. More important, though, is the root word of bis: two. It'...

Two Serious Bikes: January 2011

http://twoseriousbikes.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 22, 2011. Greg Curnoe Bike is In For Paint. I thought the day would never come, but at last it has: I have done everything I can for the Curnoe bike; Noah must take it from here. Is no less an expert, and his challenge will be no less considerable. This is going to be a complicated, time-consuming paint job. I can't wait to see it. It's very fitting also that my bike will be roommates for the next few months with what's left of the original "Mariposa T. T." As you can read here. The Nuo...

Two Serious Bikes: March 2011

http://twoseriousbikes.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 28, 2011. Bye Bye Briggs, A Raw Deal on Donuts, and Curnoe Painting Underway. In an effort to make room for Greg Curnoe bike, I am saying goodbye to my friend Briggs. He is being passed on to another friend, Jared, who is fully equipped to appreciate his lovely yellow colour and bizarre England headbadge. I've fitted Briggs with a nice 1984 Shimano 600 group, but added indexed 7-speed shifting courtesy a silver RX100 derailleur, and used Tektro brake levers. The saddle is a Rolls. The books...

Two Serious Bikes: Doug Fattic's Framebuilding Class

http://twoseriousbikes.blogspot.com/2008/08/doug-fattics-framebuilding-class.html

Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Doug Fattic's Framebuilding Class. Since I intend to keep writing on this blog, and since it's not exactly ideal to read about the class in reverse-chronology, this entry is meant as an index to my entries about the experience of Doug Fattic's framebuilding class. I posted these every night during my two-week class, and will leave them exactly as they originally appeared. Introduction: Off to Niles. Day 0: Toronto to Niles. Day 1: Designing the Frame. Day 5: More fork work, etc.

Randonoodler: August 2013

http://www.randonoodler.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

A cautionary tale of obsession. And bicycling in the pacific northwest. Monday, August 5, 2013. An Unpaved Adventure Close to Home. The route had recently been used for a cyclo-cross race and included a mix of paved roads, paved and unpaved multi-use trails, gravel roads and even a few miles of single-track. I didn't really keep track, but I'd guess that about 35 miles of the route were unpaved, and most of the paved sections were very quiet back roads with little or no traffic. And then there are other ...

A cautionary tale of obsession. And bicycling in the pacific northwest. Friday, May 18, 2012. Rode to Work with the Mayor this Morning. I rode in to work with our Mayor, Mike McGinn this morning. Well, actually that might be overstating it a bit. Today being Bike to Work day. The Cascade Bicycle club had organized a special “ Bike to work with Mayor McGinn. 8221; to get there ahead of the rest of us. This was the scene at City Hall when I got there. You definitely don't need one of those to ride in a limo.

Plenty of hot air escaping rapidly. January 26, 2010. I, too, am a fan of fork blades with a sharp low bend and read John Clay’s article in Bicycle Quarterly (Spring 2009) with interest. My friends at Circle A Cycles. Are building a frame for me and I asked if they could make a fork with blades like the ones that John Clay’s bender produces. Chris asked if I could draw the new bender and mandrel that would be required, so I studied the Clay bender and produced this drawing. It’s also possible to ha...

Plenty of hot air escaping rapidly. Fork Bender- first results. LED Replacement Bulbs: SCORE! February 3, 2010. A friend’s mom lives in Germany and was good enough to purchase these for me. The taillight with standlight works great and is much brighter than the standard bulb that came with my old Radios taillight. The replacement front lights (no standlight) are the wrong base type, however, for my Lumotec:. Responses to “LED Replacement Bulbs: SCORE! Feed for this Entry. February 20, 2010 at 12:59 pm.

Above is a conceptual sketch for a low-rider attachment for rando racks on bikes without low rider bosses. I had been looking at different ideas for front racks for my Circle A which is really designed as a Sportif, because I couldn’t resist providing for the option of carrying a small front load in addition to the frontbag/handlebar bag that will go on the rando rack. Additionally, since m...

Just have to wait for the next stable release of JSXGraph (.79) before I upload it as it is dependent on some of the new features. A couple more minor changes to make to the background paper as well. My "5"ever Family

Monday, January 10, 2011. Ashlyn's Vacay to San Diego. I spent all summer long doing an online preschool everyday. On the way out of town I went to my graduation for my all hard work! I tested at 1st grade beginning placement. I love my kindergarten teacher, Miss Lindberg. She is very calm and I enjoy going to school (most days). What's an alligator gar? We've seen these before, but they are SO big! Wanted to cool off. So, we ate Shamu ;). Loved this gondola ride over the bay. One of the 'big' girls :).
