Last summer we had to transfer Mum to yet another EMI Home. We were very upset at this change as we were generally pleased with the home and particularly with the staff and the way they looked after Mum. Two Socks on One Foot. Diary of a Dementia Carer. Rest Home →. I rang several times and it was always the same response. There were higher priority emergencies apparently. We managed to get her up before the ambulance arrived. My niece came round and between the 3 of us, we got Mum up again but she was so unsteady on her feet, I was really concerned. When the paramedics arrived, they gave her the once over but she was okay so they apologised for the delay and left. To cut a long story (and a long night!

I feel that I've lost her and I don't know where she is. She's been my responsibility for so long. I have this lost feeling, like I've lost my purse or house keys. I know something important is missing, is gone, and I can't find it. Is it because dementia has been a series of many little goodbyes? But I want to scream. NO! I was not a good daughter!

Thats what my mum used to tell me growing up. She loved all things artistic. Finding activities that keep mum occupied but not overwhelmed can be a challenge. We stumbled upon something new yesterday when I was cutting up some leaflets for work. Drawings were proudly brought home to me when they were little.

The book is "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. It is not one of the main characters, it is the minor character of The Missus. The housekeeper of Angelfield estate. It is interesting to read how the slow devastation of dementia in The Missus. Not care for herself, she can no longer run the estate. Links to this post.
