It’s all coming back to me now. Rob Bell, Heaven and Hell. March 26, 2011. Leadership and Culture Change. New learnings from this year:. Any group of people can become a class. All that’s required is a lecturer, a topic, and a roster. The group doesn’t even need to assemble for the class to work. Classes are useful for measuring individual performance and for enforcing individual accountability to standards written for individuals. Leaders model and enable safe environments by risking the rejection of th...

Reliving, part 2 | Vaguely Familiar
https://byronpdavis.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/reliving-part-2
It’s all coming back to me now. What Would You Do? Reliving, part 2. September 9, 2007. I wrote in this post. About the question that brought me up short at my 20-year high school reunion: “If you could relive any moment from high school, what would it be? 8221; I couldn’t come up with one at the time, and I committed to take some time, reflect, and find a high school moment worth reliving. Group that got us and a place to sit during lunch. So when Mr. Geros wrote a show for us that summer with an ope.

Solutions and Problems | Vaguely Familiar
https://byronpdavis.wordpress.com/2013/09/27/solutions-and-problems
It’s all coming back to me now. September 27, 2013. The fact that someone, somewhere has a solution doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a problem. It may simply mean that someone, somewhere needs to sell you a solution so that he or she can feed his or her family. They’re not bad people. They’re just salesmen. Selling us is their job. Common Core is a fantastic solution. Really. It’s nice and shiny and elaborate and from the future! Responses to “Solutions and Problems”. Feed for this Entry. Kudos to ...

Our National Anthem | Vaguely Familiar
https://byronpdavis.wordpress.com/2012/11/28/our-national-anthem
It’s all coming back to me now. November 28, 2012. It’s ours. It belongs to all of us. It’s our heritage, our birthright, our privilege to sing and our privilege to feel all warm and fuzzy when we do. It’s not yours. It’s not mine. It’s ours. If you are chosen to sing the national anthem before a crowd anywhere, keep in mind that you have only been given a microphone. You have not been given the national anthem. That is still ours. The question is, are you a good leader? Feed for this Entry. You are comm...

We Disagree | Vaguely Familiar
https://byronpdavis.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/we-disagree
It’s all coming back to me now. August 2, 2012. I disagree with you. Is that ok? I like you, I respect you. I enjoy your company and I enjoy laughing with you when something funny happens. I neither fear you nor do I hate you. I don’t know why we disagree, and I don’t need you to agree with me. But I don’t like it when you say that we disagree because I’m bad. Or motivated by hate. Or fear. It may just be that I think my position has more merit than yours. If you will let me. Feed for this Entry. On your...

Rob Bell, Heaven and Hell | Vaguely Familiar
https://byronpdavis.wordpress.com/2011/03/23/rob-bell-heaven-and-hell
It’s all coming back to me now. Rob Bell, Heaven and Hell. March 23, 2011. Evangelicals who pay attention are all abuzz about Rob Bell’. And particularly Rob’s rejection of the traditional view of hell. He’s catching a lot of flak from evangelical heavy-hitters like Al Mohler. And John Piper for his stance (see Brian McLaren’s defense of Bell here. And a lot of people I know and care for are lining up to get their licks in. But, at the end of the day, I just wish the whole heaven/hell thing would go away.
