At about the 33-year mark, I realized that I had already lived the life that I originally set out to live. I've been "winging it" here in academia, ever since. I firmly believe that the transience, folly, peripherality, splendor, mayhem, hurt, extremity, poverty, rapture, criminality, and intentionality that define my first 33 are dialectically and generatively invaluable to the academic endeavor to which I am now wholeheartedly devoted — to my researching, to my writing, and to my teaching.
