My Training Adventures: January 2013
http://mytrainingadventures.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Houston Half Marathon - January 13. Anyway, we got to mile 1 and I hit the split button on my garmin. 13:22. Not bad and much better than I had anticipated based on the way my aunt talked. The way she made it sound, I wasn't sure we'd make the cutoff. Seeing the 13:22 made me feel better about that. I'm thinking if we can keep this up we will be just fine. The rain would stop for a while and then start again, but we just kept going. It was at this point where my aunt started ha...

My Training Adventures: January 2014
http://mytrainingadventures.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 26, 2014. 3M Half Marathon Race Report. As for me, I never ran track. I never considered myself fast. I still don’t. But do I have what it takes to get fastER at my age, in my early 40s. Well, let me just say that with hard work, anything is possible. I had nothing to lose. I knew even if I blew up I would still finish and could still finish in a respectable time. So I went with it. Race Results and Splits. Official Time: 1:55:52 for an 8:51 pace. 1600 out of 4613 overall. Swim - 79,370 y...

My Training Adventures: 2014 Year in Review
http://mytrainingadventures.blogspot.com/2014/12/2014-year-in-review.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. 2014 Year in Review. Yeah, I know. It's been a long time. And I still have several individual posts to do, but I will go back and add those later. For now, I want to summarize 2014 before we head into 2015. As far as racing.with the limited income, I didn't race as much as I normally do, but I did do some races and even set new PRs at most of them. Who says you slow down with age? I'm not to that point yet. I even placed at the local Turkey Trot. I'm looking forward to 2015&...

My Training Adventures: March 2015
http://mytrainingadventures.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 21, 2015. Little Rock Marathon 2015. I began training in the Fall and was doing great. I was hitting all of my workouts and, miraculously, able to get them in all outside. And then Winter hit. I don’t mind cold and I don’t mind wind, but I don’t do well with the two combined. We had several days of 30 degrees and 25 mph winds. To the treadmill I went. Since the race didn’t start until 8:00 (most start at 7:00), I did get to sleep in a bit. I ate my pre-race meal and got dressed,...We met ...

My Training Adventures: 2015 Cap 10K
http://mytrainingadventures.blogspot.com/2015/04/2015-cap-10k.html
Sunday, April 12, 2015. This is a race that I pretty much do every year. I never train for it specifically, because I’m usually training for something else around the same time. After completing the Little Rock Marathon March 1st, I kept some run training going and felt my fitness level was pretty decent. I didn’t think I would PR and didn’t really care if I did or not. Mile 4: 9:07 (my garmin showed longer than a mile even though I hit the split at the mile markers). But, in the end, it paid off. Fi...

Friday, March 29, 2013. RRCA Coaching Certification Class. Two weeks after my Yoga Fit training, I headed to Atlanta, Georgia to accomplish goal number 2 of the year – get my run coach certification through the Road Runners Club of America. And unlike the Yoga Fit training, we DID get a sample agenda for this clinic and I was made aware that breakfast, lunch and snacks would be provided. Still, to be on the safe side, I packed some of my favorite snacks. But I rented a car and packed my GPS. The GPS took...

My Training Adventures: April 2015

Monday, April 27, 2015. Stand Up Paddle Yoga Teacher Training. Last year I saw an advertisement for SUP Yoga Teacher Training. I really wanted to do it last year, but I wasn’t 200-hour certified at the time, and that was one of the requirements. After getting my 200-hour certification in February I started keeping my eyes open and researching if or when this training would be offered this year. Monday, April 20, 2015. Team Red, White and Blue Tri Camp 2015. One of our awesome volunteers offered to grill ...

Sunday, September 28, 2014. Team RWB Tri Camp 2014 - Year 3. After returning from racing in Galveston, it was time to put final preparations on the 2014 Team Red, White and Blue Triathlon Camp. This year was the third year of the camp and would be the biggest yet. I am honored to be a part of the group and to be a part of the third triathlon camp. The coach, the volunteers, the pros, the athletes all make it a highlight of my year. Long Overdue 2014 Galveston 70.3 Race Report. After the ride and cleaning...
