Two wheel tinkering

Tuesday, 7 October 2014. Well, I've done bugger all on this blog for ages! Ive ordered a Lead solder kit so I can sort the leaky petrol tank I need to fit to the BMW R80. I attended the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Sheffield. I went on the BMW R80 and it ran really well and nothing fell off. I did around 300 miles that day and I'm really pleased with how the BM rides. It easily sits at 70-80 mph and handles corners better than some sports bikes I've owned. Tuesday, 28 January 2014. It's been a while.

Two wheel tinkering: March 2012

http://twowheeltinkering.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, 29 March 2012. Got the angle grinder out after work tonight, cut a chunk off the back end and shortened the seat. I will be getting rid of the rear foot pegs and make an exhaust hanger. I kind of like the side panels, still not sure if I should keep them? I need to tidy up the back of the seat and decide if I want a cafe racer hump or something else. I am going for an overall rat look to the bike, which will mean getting some heavy duty paint stripper on the petrol tank for the bare metal look!

Two wheel tinkering: Paint stripper

http://twowheeltinkering.blogspot.com/2012/07/paint-stripper.html

Tuesday, 10 July 2012. A long overdue update. I have finally finished the seat unit. I kept having different ideas for the seat/back light arrangement, but I cannot weld so kept it simple with what you see below. I then made a small bracket to attach the rear brake reservoir. The tank is too blue, it needs to be silver! Get the paint stripper out! Liberally spread the paint stripper over the tank and wait 10 to 15 minutes. It will then start to bubble! After about 15 minutes it looks like this!

Two wheel tinkering: Flexible Friend!

http://twowheeltinkering.blogspot.com/2013/03/flexible-friend.html

Thursday, 21 March 2013. A long and slow winter but it's starting to pick up, a bit! I've been doing bits and pieces on the BMW. I bought a pair of cheap scruffy looking silencers from ebay for £30. They are from an earlier twin shock BMW so they could not be just bolted on! I tried putting them straight onto the ends of the header pipes but it didn't look right. I then used the original mounts but I would have to make a connecting pipe. The silencers sound quite fruity and have a nice twin sound.

Two wheel tinkering: February 2012

http://twowheeltinkering.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 28 February 2012. Carbs cleaned, and they certainly needed it. The picture below doesn't do it justice, the jets were filthy and gummed up and float bowl needles sticking. All clean now, but the buggers still not starting. plugs are getting wet with fuel now, but the battery might be a bit weak and feeble. ordered new plugs and battery. Friday, 24 February 2012. The carbs are off. gotta work the weekend so will have to wait till next week before I look inside! Wednesday, 22 February 2012.

Two wheel tinkering: Finished!!!!

http://twowheeltinkering.blogspot.com/2012/07/finished.html

Sunday, 22 July 2012. YES as the title suggests the bike is finished! I have lacquered the tank in petrol resistant clear lacquer. I have stripped and rebuilt the forks and fitted new seals as they were knackered! I used this useful website http:/ www.bluepoof.com/motorcycles/howto/svs fork oil/. It's for a SV650 but everything is mostly the same. As you can see in the picture below, you cannot even see the tray from the side. A couple of Gritty B&W photos set in an urban industrial setting! I was first ...

TWO WHEEL TORTOISE | slow and steady cycle touring

Slow and steady cycle touring. Slow and steady cycle touring. Cycling to a Patagonian winter. The final chapter…. Having sped down the Patagonian steppe, I reached El Calafate one month ahead of schedule. I took some time off the bike to rest and visit the incredible Perito Moreno glacier. I ploughed to the border, mud splashing up my legs and coating my chain, my heart felt warm. I have ridden your length, and know you well, you are kind, and incredibly beautiful, farewell Chile. Entering Argentina with...
