En plena Plaza Circular se ubicaba el Hotel Terminus, un hospedaje que daba cabida a 102 lujosas habitaciones. Inaugurado el 1 de julio de 1893, fue obra del gran arquitecto bilbaíno Severino de Achúcarro y Mocoroa (Bilbao, 1941-Paris, 1910). Cuando se hizo el hotel, se pensó en la idea de enlazar con una pasarela cubierta el acceso de la propia estación de tren con el hotel. Hotel Terminus (se puede observar la pasarela que conectaba con la estación). Pero la tragedia siempre estuvo vinculada al hotel.
