Moving Along: February 2009
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Friday, February 27, 2009. I live across from a landmark. In fact, I’m fortunate enough to see this landmark from my living room window. You might have heard of this famous ship, the Queen Mary. When I first moved into my apartment, I sat in the late afternoons to watch the sunset dip under the Palos Verde Peninsula and the Queen Mary. It was a beautiful sight, but as time has passed I rarely notice the ship anymore. Of course t...

Moving Along: Creating Words
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2009/05/creating-words.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Have you ever felt inundated by the number of new words. Or changes in old definitions) that you come across? Have you ever wondered why we consent to live in a descriptive world of vocabulary? It seems our world of words is expanding as dramatically as the universe, but I’m not so sure this is for the betterment of our language. An example of prescriptivism. I am a native English speaker, and lately I&#...

Moving Along: April 2009
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Friday, April 24, 2009. This essay is about free stuff but not the kind that is given; instead, I’d like to mention the kind that is thought of as free. I know someone who recently revealed to me, quite suddenly, that she watches all the latest movies. As we move deeper into our digital age. I agree with this . . . to an extent. Friday, April 17, 2009. It considers itself a universal city, unattached to politics or religion....

Moving Along: November 2008
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Friday, November 28, 2008. I went to a birthday party this evening; actually, it was a birthday dinner. It was held at a local Chinese restaurant. My friend was celebrating his fifty-fifth birthday, and like most over the age of fifty was a bit annoyed by how quickly time moves the older one gets. It wasn’t speculation because no conclusion or theory was ever formed, but it was a form of disapproval. I do agree with my friend th...

Moving Along: December 2008
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Friday, December 26, 2008. The water heater hasn’t worked in over a week, and I’ve tried since last Friday to find a plumber capable to work on the electric ignitor. Most plumbers are not willing to do such work because most don’t handle electrical issues on water heaters. Nevertheless, my fifth attempt at a search. Ended successfully, and I have found one that not only does the work but has also returned all of my phone calls.

Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Friday, March 27, 2009. Right Sock, Left Sock. The feeling wasn’t the same when I wore two right socks together (or two left, for that matter). I had to match my right foot with the R sock and my left foot with the L sock in order to achieve maximum comfort. It wasn’t long before I wondered, is it really necessary to wear socks on specific feet? There are many types of socks. If a sock is a sock . . . is a sock, and ...When we w...

Moving Along: Right Thought
http://tylergant.blogspot.com/2009/05/right-thought.html
Annotations About The Place We Are All In: Life, by the novelist Tyler Gant. Wednesday, May 13, 2009. I sometimes wonder if we ever consider thought as something easy and appropriate to control. I’ll be the first to admit guilt when it comes to blurting out inappropriate things. The blurt is actual speech, but the thought behind it is something else. Is it possible to control thought as much as it is speech? Enters and leaves our minds in seconds. Two of the simplest ways are: prayer and meditation.
