Letter predator, carnivorous for kerning. Who is this weirdo? The domino sign would have been the obvious neon type choice, but i’ve gone rouge and chosen the rusty scupper. The disappointing result of these photos is that the neon shone so bright that the tubes of color which create each letter meld together. in real life, the neon tubes look awesome up close. i suppose the purpose of this lettering is luminance and obviously the typography is very readable and eye-catching. I have a large collection of asian-centric fiction. three of my favorites are by author gail tsukiyama. the typography used on each cover is different because the font reflects the particular stories. above, the title font mimics the characters in japanese writing as well as the gentle curves of samurai weapons against the rigidity of the warrior pose. apt choice for a novel chronicling a chinese man’s new life in japan.
