Uganda 2010 Student Midwives: Sick as a dog on the banks of the Nile

http://www.uganda2010studentmidwives.blogspot.com/2010/06/sick-as-dog-on-banks-of-nile.html

Uganda 2010 Student Midwives. Monday, June 14, 2010. Sick as a dog on the banks of the Nile. It seems the theme of our time here is a study in contrasts. Given the journey thus far, I should not have been surprised to find myself surrounded by a tropical paradise of birds and flowers on our first weekend off, purging my guts out. The gastrointestinal upset lasted only 24 hours and I was nursed by 5 loving midwifery student attendants who just wished they had supplies to start up some IV fluids. Subscribe...

Uganda 2010 Student Midwives: Update from Masaka

http://www.uganda2010studentmidwives.blogspot.com/2010/06/update-from-masaka.html

Uganda 2010 Student Midwives. Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Our friends in Masaka have been having troubles posting, so hopefully this will work. Head first this time and crying immediately. The babies were both quite feisty, the smaller of the two looked keen on breastfeeding from the get go so we got baby skin to skin and that baby latched onto the breast beautifully. That was the highlight of my day - a perky little twin who likes a good feed…Someone after my own heart. We’ll keep you posted. So glad you sa...

Uganda 2010 Student Midwives: Jinja

http://www.uganda2010studentmidwives.blogspot.com/2010/06/jinja.html

Uganda 2010 Student Midwives. Monday, June 14, 2010. Ok, clearly that did not work. Hopefully we will get to be able to put up pictures eventually. If anyone has a tip on how to make the picture files smaller on my macbook, let me know. Ashley and I are now on our way back to Mbale from the Kingfisher Safaris Resort in Jinja. We took a chicken-bus to get here, and it was %& * %*% hot! Wherever we go. It is quite cute. Some of them come up and curtsy as well. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Birth in the Himalayas: Student Midwives in Nepal: Lychees and Labours of Love

http://himalayanbirth.blogspot.com/2010/06/lychees-and-labours-of-love.html

Birth in the Himalayas: Student Midwives in Nepal. Saturday, June 5, 2010. Lychees and Labours of Love. We have just finished our second week at the Bharatpur Government Hospital, and can't believe we only have two more weeks to go! We have attended more amazing, challenging and surprising births this week. Gloves on fast. Barely able to see, I was trying to support the woman's perineum as she delivered her baby's head, when she let out an almighty scream and kicked me hard. I caught a first-time mother'...

Birth in the Himalayas: Student Midwives in Nepal. Thursday, June 24, 2010. On our way Home! Hello friends and family,. We are now in Hong Kong after returning from our holiday in Pokhara and braving the chaos of Kathmandu. When we got back to Kathmandu we could hardly believe that we were already back in the city where all our adventures began 7 weeks ago! We should go now (it would be pretty awful to get stuck in HK now! Love to everyone,. Sunday, June 20, 2010. Hangin' up the (dirty) scrubs. In our fi...

Childhood, Health and Education Reflections

Childhood, Health and Education Reflections. Thursday, February 2, 2012. While our trio’s focus for the trip was on education, we had planned for a rather academic reflection session with our peers. Looking at the tired faces, and back at each other, we knew we’d pull this through. While the fatigue was still visible in our peer’s faces while we questioned them about their academic past, we did find out some interesting facts about our group:. The majority of students, Makerere and Hopkins alike, perceiv...
