Uganda Tour

Two week tour of Uganda with Kathleen and Riaan. Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Danny's daughter, Kathleen, and her husband, Riaan, visited us for the first two weeks in February. Aside from a couple of 'glitches' we all enjoyed the trip. Since there were only 4 of us we used our own car and Danny did most of the driving including game drives, Riaan also helped drive. Than we were at the beginning of the trip. Photos are in this album:. Lake Mburo and Mbarara. Feb 2 and 3. The twin-bedded tents were fine an...

Uganda Tour: Mountains of the Moon -- Airport Guest House Entebbe

http://ugandakathleenriaan.blogspot.com/2009/02/day.html

Two week tour of Uganda with Kathleen and Riaan. Monday, February 16, 2009. Mountains of the Moon - Airport Guest House Entebbe. Mountains of the Moon, Fort Portal. To break up the trip to Entebbe we spent the night in the town of Fort Portal which is about 20km from the Primate Lodge at Kibale. Cozy lodge with lovely landscaping, gardens, and verandas. We were looking forward to cooling off in the pool but found that it hadn’t been cleaned recently. Meals were excellent and rooms were comfortable. And D...

Uganda Tour: Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp - QENP

http://ugandakathleenriaan.blogspot.com/2009/02/ishasha-ntungwe-river-camp-qenp.html

Two week tour of Uganda with Kathleen and Riaan. Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp - QENP. Feb 8 and 9. Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp. A superb young chef named Benson prepared the meals. A sample dinner was stuffed tomato, onion soup, homemade rolls, barbecued chicken with rice and gravy, fresh green beans and carrots, and sponge cake for dessert. We also enjoyed full breakfasts and wonderful lunches. The downside to this location is that when it rains the road leading to the camp is e...

Uganda Tour: Kibale Forest Chimp Tracking

http://ugandakathleenriaan.blogspot.com/2009/02/kibale-forest-chimp-tracking.html

Two week tour of Uganda with Kathleen and Riaan. Monday, February 16, 2009. Kibale Forest Chimp Tracking. Feb 11 and 12. Primate Lodge, Kibale Forest. This lodge is always busy as it is a 5 minute walk to the UWA station for chimp tracking in the Kibale Forest. The chimps were near the lodge on the days we were there and we could easily hear them calling each other. Near the lodge are very good forest walks, but we got lost for a brief time as we didn’t use a guide. Pic is baboons on the side of the road.

Two week tour of Uganda with Kathleen and Riaan. Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Mweya Lodge, Queen Elizabeth Nat'l Park. Feb 6 and 7. Mweya Lodge, Queen Elizabeth National Park. On our first day we took the 2-hour Kazinga Channel boat trip. The shores were teaming with animals! Before dinner that evening they went for a game walk whilst I stayed behind for a one-hour massage and a dip in the pool. Lovely! A definite 5 star! Http:/ www.mweyalodge.com/. Danny & Annie @ VSO: January 2009

http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Monday, 12 January 2009. Tips on settling in for volunteers outside of Kampala. These are tips only for volunteers outside of Kampala since Kampala is a totally different world from the rest of Uganda - plenty of shopping malls, etc. Our house had a table, 2 wooden chairs, 2 single beds with mattresses and a toilet brush. No dishes, nothing to clean with, no basins for doing laundry, no clothesline, no sheets, blankets, etc. It took many months to fully furnish our house. Jerry can...

Danny & Annie @ VSO: HOME!

http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2009/10/home.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Tuesday, 6 October 2009. After tearful goodbyes in Kampala and at the airport, we took the long journey home to Scotland. We've been touring the Inverness area with Danny's daughter and her husband, and getting used to the drastic drop in temperature. Here's a few pics I took yesterday and I'll continue blogging here:. Danny & Annie @ VSO: April 2009

http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Thursday, 30 April 2009. A goat.and a passport. Nothe goat didn't eat a passport. We have been invited to the farm of our next door neighbour for a big meal tomorrow with his entire family. In Uganda meat is always served when guests are invited. So tomorrow's special course is tied to a tree across the road from our homes. Personally, I like goat meat but I've never seen a live animal prior to consuming it at a meal. I am a dual citizen. Wednesday, 29 April 2009. Since contributio...

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Thursday, 3 September 2009. The college is on term break until September 7th so Danny and I have been taking short holidays the last couple of weeks such as two nights at Kingfisher Lodge overlooking the Rift Valley and three nights at Arcadia Cottages at Lake Bunyonyi. On the way back from Lake Bunyonyi we stopped by to see the former principal of our college, Lwamafa Javan. Danny, Evaristo and his parents. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Friday, 28 August 2009. Hair salons in Uganda. It is difficult to find a hair stylist in Uganda that knows how to properly cut mzungu hair, and most will refuse to try. I took my chances twice at salons and had my hair 'butchered'. So I suggest you only go to a salon which is recommended by someone. Monday, 24 August 2009. To live in a country for a year or two and never spend a day with a local family is a shame. Something important from the time living here will be missing. Danny...

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Thursday, 24 September 2009. Lwamafa, college principal for our first year, and his wife Jovuline. 65279; Seems like everyone has invited us for a goodbye meal and we've enjoyed them all immensely. We had our leaving do/party at the college yesterday and I felt quite sad to say goodbye. Danny wore his kilt which was cause for many giggles. He gave a lovely speech as well. A second year student. Some second year students prepare to go on teaching practice. Our dear friend Mushabe.

Danny & Annie @ VSO: June 2009

http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Sunday, 14 June 2009. Update on Doreen, future lawyer. While Doreen is waiting for the results she has been devouring most of our books as she is a voracious reader. Results from the universities are expected the end of June and beginning of July. UCU results are delayed due to the university adding interviews with prospective students instead of simply accepting by exam results. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Previously Mbarara, Uganda. Danny & Annie @ VSO: November 2010

http://volunteersabroad.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Danny and Annie @ VSO. Tuesday, 23 November 2010. I am going to have this blog printed as a book and have had to replace the Uganda-dead-slow-internet-uploadable-sized photos with the originals so they would be print quality. Some of the originals are missing, so there are some changes in the blog in case anyone is wondering. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Previously Mbarara, Uganda. View my complete profile. Monday, 1 August 2011. The adventure is not over, even though it is. My first meal did indeed involve pesto- very magnanimous of mom, since the kitchen was a construction zone without a sink or stove. How did she do it?
